Fried Squash Patties

When I was a kid I hated squash.  Plus, I had the misfortune of growing up in a family where you sat at the table until your plate was empty.  When the dog was in the house it wasn't usually a problem.  But when my parents found out why the dog was getting so fat they would make sure he stayed in another room during meals.  I sat at the table one Sunday for lunch until dinner because I wouldn't eat my squash.  I finally learned to do what other kids with the same problem did and that was to hold my nose, put the spoon of squash as far back in my throat as possible, and swallow.  I didn't seem to taste it as much.  I think that's because your taste glands are in the front of your mouth.  Now I'm still not crazy about squash, but if I can make it in a way that it doesn't look like squash and doesn't really taste like squash, I'll eat it.  My recipe for Fried Squash Patties on page 143 of my book Stir, Laugh, Repeat is one of the ways I will eat squash.
