Motivation for Unification
by Minister Catherine “Joy” Griffin

This article was birth out of an experience of silent frustration, spiritual stagnation, and the simple desire to witness a miraculous move of God upon His people. It comes from the heart of one who hungers for “true ” revival which produces life changing results, not just the common emotional high of having a good time in church experience.
After experiencing and witnessing the healing power and awe inspiring presence of the true and living God not only here in the United States but more specifically while living in foreign countries; places where the worship of false idol gods is the majority and Christianity estimated to be around 1%, it was very exciting to finally be positioned to return home. Confidently expecting to locate one of many unified bodies of Christ in the community doing immeasurably more was a given.
Yes there were high expectations upon returning to the land of the free, the home of the brave, to the country where a declaration of “in God we trust” is printed on its currency. Home, often perceived as a well populated community consisting of not only believers in the true and living God but also those worshipping Him in Spirit and in truth. Additional excitement arose during the occasional visits home and discovering local businesses publicly displaying scriptures on countertops, business cards and even advertising billboards. Finally, after 28 years of living in different parts of the US and aboard, returning home was here.
Not looking for perfect Saints however the anticipation of working in unity with those striving towards the mark of the high calling in Christ rated high as motivation for unification. After all, to witness the change of heart in people who worshipped false idols all their lives and watch them sell out to worship and serve God with a steadfast love, surely unity among those who have always known OF Him and now professing Him as Lord wouldn’t be an unattainable tasking. What a surprise, what disappointment!
Okay, so things were different. No time for complaining, getting busy working in unity was still the focus. There was much fasting, praying, fellowshipping and assisting co-laborers in the vineyard any way possible to be done. Bam! Up goes the wall(s) of resistance, division, territorial struggles and the list goes on. Definite spiritual distractions however there seem to be an even stronger force of compromise with the enemy tactics in the form of excuses and cover up. No one willing to stand and do what was right because it was the right thing to do. An astonishing revelation was found in the many people of God, who valued their loyalty to man more highly than their loyalty to the call God has appointed them to.  Wow!

The divisive tactics, the jealously, the lying, the blame games all became stronger and stronger forces until one day facing the question why continue trying” presented itself. Fortunately a quick resolve by way of a very simplistic answer is given; because of the love of God and the love and compassion for people. The desire for everyone to be afforded an opportunity to experience the perfect plan and purpose ordained by God, to receive salvation, healing and, deliverance was the driving force to continue on.  The motivation for unification held no underlying self motivated mission to gain notoriety or to steal anyone’s thunder, just a straightforward desire to help others see and live the life of abundance that God has promised. Deliverance from the ordinary going to church, being entertained or just moved emotionally, yet never receiving the life changing experience that God ordained was the reason.
And the questions continue, what happened to “worship”? When did things move to a mere ritualistic Service which seems to be the “tone” that has captivated the ministry environment all over;  not just locally and definitely not one specific church / ministry? Although for some they have never moved past the bylaws that were established over 75 to 100 years ago. At any rate, what happened to worship, worship in Spirit and in truth is still the question? What happened to Christian unity? The solid unity throughout the body of Christ regardless of church affiliation or religious denomination had become a scarce commodity.
So how does a community so well populated with churches and ministries lack the vital thread of unity noticeable only to “outsiders”? Has it become such a commonality that division among God’s people is just accepted as correct? Furthermore, how does one become encamped among a massive Spiritual graveyard unaware of the impeding death and destructive path of life they are traveling?
Two years later, the need and the desire to be unified in worship - where God is given the liberty to abide - with others sincerely believing and expecting His power and presence to be manifested. Praying and remaining faithful to experiencing His presence right here at home. Looking forward to being in the midst of where God is, where He is working throughout the body of Christ and witness intolerance from the people of God towards churches and ministries with Leaders who constantly allows the foolishness of the world to penetrate what should be the safe haven, the “house of prayer for all people”.
Nevertheless, from deep within resounds a promise from God which destroys any thought attack to give in or give up. He is concerned about everything that concerns His people. Standing on this promise and believing that even prior to penning this article He’s already worked it out for the good of them that love Him and are called according to His purpose.  Oh, how I do love Jesus!
