From an exchange of letters...

Dear Cecilia:

I am so pleased that we exchanged messages.  I understood your intent was to be as one spirit to another--to show a cosmic understanding, an acknowledgement that you and I are kindred spirits with similar values, similar likes and dislikes, and with similar points of view on many subjects. There is honesty in your word choices and in your writing style that is very attractive and endearing. This attribute flows from the pen of those who seek truth in their lives. You need to pursue your gift, and develop it. Your readers will come to love it. The shallow and the superficial will never get it. And that brings me to my real point: My dear, writing is in your destiny. And one of the truisms in life is that you need to find your gifts, develop them...and give them away in a fresh, polished format bearing your signature. Writing does not pay well, and you can go thru life without writing. Socrates was considered to be one of the wisest men of all time, yet he wrote nothing. Writing is how those of us without wealth give back, and the payoff is in the passing on of wisdom in the form of a laugh, a smile, or just encouragement. We only regret that which we always knew we could have done, and should have done, but did not do. I am not a famous writer. I am not a good critic. I don't even write to be remembered. Only good thoughts are timeless. That is what survives and is remembered.  Robert Frost was a great writer. And "The Road Not Taken" is his crown jewel. His talent is reflected in his unforgettable words:  "I shall be saying this with a sigh, somewhere ages and ages hence:  two roads diverged in a wood and I--,I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference." I hope you feel the urge to call me sometime. Your voice will be as welcome as your thoughtful words. With deep affection, one writer to another.
