My Own Version of Weird New Jersey (fact or fiction?)

Whether you've heard of the magazine Weird New Jersey or not, this is my version.

If you don't live in New Jersey or the surrounding states, you're probably not aware of some of the strange things that happen here. I think just about everyone in South Jersey has a few strange stories of there own; including myself. Being a lifelong resident of the state I've had one or two weird New Jersey moments.

When I was about thirteen or fourteen years old my father bought a brand new moped for my sisters and I. I remember it like it was yesterday. The moped was yellos and to me it represented freedom. Being from a very small town, miles outside of town, life was often boring. The only store around for miles was a small delicatessan about three quarters of a mile down the road. Of course, being only 13 or 14 years old my only options for transportation were bicycling, walking or waiting for one of my parents to drive me to friends houses or to town. But now, this new moped represented freedom. Although it wasn't that fast, it could still get me places that were out of reach before.

One day a girlfriend and I decided to take the moped through some of the deserted trails behind my house. We tore through the trails, forcing the throttle to full speed. We stopped at one intersection, neither one of us sure which way we wanted to go; the next ten seconds determined that for us.
*********************************************************************************

It all happened so fast but at the same time things seemed to move in slow motion. All at once we heard an unearthly, mind-blowing screech. I froze in terror, I literally could not move. About a split second went by when two deer ran right past us. But they didn't just run, they were running for there lives. And although it happened very quickly, I could see the terror in there eyes. Following only inches after the deer was a huge beastly creature that appeared at least seven foot tall. It had the facial features of a kangaroo (I know! New Jersey doesn't have kangaroo running wild.), small dinosaur-like arms with sharp claws, massive legs with hoofed feet and a large powerful tail. As it ran past chasing the deer, it screamed once again. It all happened in about three seconds but the images have lasted a lifetime.
