Well, look at that. The lake's so still you can see the sky in it. And boy those clouds look real, like they're down there in the water inviting you to dive in and play with them. Gotta beware of those tricky images, don'tcha know...tricky and, from what Twindle Mumbly tells me...MAGICAL!
Oh yes. Lake WhaddyathininkImean has a lonnnnngggg histry of being magical.
Why a 16 pound trout that Twindle taxidermied used to be an eagle. That's right. At least that's what Fred Lumbergartenson Smith Huweegin told him. Said he saw that bird dive straight into the clouds in the water and jump right back out as a yellow speckled trout. On the end of HIS fishing line, don'tcha know.
And then there's DRIPPY the border collie, who's ALWAYS jumping into puddles, swamps, toilet bowls, you name it, if it's wet, so is Drippy.
Well, wouldn't you know he dove straight into the clouds and came back up green. That's right. Bright green, like somebody spray painted him. And it happened on St. Paddy's Day. That's when Aggie and Andy McTavish saw him swim to shore lookin more like Kermit than collie.
Well, I think it was those green beers they were drinkin' that turned their eyesight funny.
Than again...from the time ol' Maybelle was a wee girl, folks have been telling me about Lake W being magical. And you know what? I like thinkin it IS.
I LIKE lookin down into the water and seeing a whole world that's so beautiful it takes my breath away. Where cities are full of light and love, there's food and shelter for everyone...goodwill among its citizens and visitors...where there's no such thing as taxes and fighting...and where yer pet bear kin sit with you in the movies and push yer cart fer you at the nearby grocery, don'tcha know.
Now I don't know about you, but ol' Maybelle sure wants to believe there's a place with those kinds of possibilities...cause the news I keep hearing about makes my heart sink into my socks. And the only things I want in my socks are my FEET, don'tcha know.
Why it's just good time spent, dreaming the good dream, living in your heart, and making things happen from there.
That's the real magic.
Til' next time...keep dreamin!
Maybelle
