Kata Danae' Fizhugh, now six, is now in the first grade. She also is dealing with the loss of her MeeMaw, who was very close to her.

Kata Danae' Fizhugh here.  I hope this finds you well.

I'm sad.  I lost my MeeMaw last week.  She had a heart attack.  She died in her sleep.  PeePaw said she didn't suffer.  She's now in Heaven, with God, Jesus, and the angels.  I already miss her bad; she and I were very good friends!

I didn't go to the funeral, but my oldest sister, Kadie, did (she's 11).  She said many people came and just 'bout everyone cried, because they were gonna miss her too.  MeeMaw had lots of friends.

Today, Mama and PeePaw said that they might take me to the grave where MeeMaw is buried.  That way, I can say goodbye to her.  I know I will cry; I'm not looking forward to it, but I must do it, so I can say goodbye to her and tell her how much I'm gonna miss her.

I'm in the first grade now.  School started last week.  My new teacher's name is Mrs. Collins.  I hope she is as nice as the teacher I had in kindergarten; her name was Miss Penny, and she was the best!  I loved her!!  I am also in the same class with my best friend, Rachael Paxton, and we play at recess and have lunch together.

Last week, a boy in my class, Daron Dimwitt, called me shorty, but Rachael said to him that if he doesn't stop, she's gonna beat him up good.  He hasn't bothered me, but I can tell he wants to 'cause he keeps looking at me and making mean faces.

We are going to sing at the Wylie Opry on Saturday, meaning Kent, Kasey, Kadie, and myself.  I haven't sung at an Opry in a while; we have been too busy with going on vacation and swimming and stuff.  We had a good summer.  We went to Branson, Missouri in June, and this coming weekend, we're going to Louisiana, to a Cajun music festival. Should be lots of fun!!

I am happy to say I passed my kindgergarten; now I'm a big first grader. It feels funny not being the baby kid any more, and now when I look at the kindergarten kids, I'm surprised at how little they are compared to me.  Next to some of 'em, I'm a giant!!

Well, I gotta run.  It's gonna be writing time.  Then we will have lunch att he cafeteria and then go to recess.  I will write in here again soon; until later, this is your Texas friend, Kata Danae' Fizhugh, saying so long!  God bless!

~Love, your friend, Kata Danae'.  :)

Karen,

Slice of life in lines that make you believe that the characters you write about are real. Excellent.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
