My heart is hurting for my homeland right now, once again Afghanistan is the victim of violence, once again innocence lives are taken in the name of some warped ideology.  America is my home now and has been for years, but it does not lessen my grief for Kabul.

Father and I were up watching the news on CNN, listening to Anderson Cooper speak to Nancy Grace about her new book Eleventh Victim when it was preempted, the news was that a suicide bomber had attacked Kabul.

KABUL, Afghanistan (CNN) -- A huge explosion rocked the Afghan capital, Kabul, early Saturday, just five days before presidential elections.

There was no immediate word on casualties or the cause of the blast.

"The sound was like a very loud door banging right next to me," said CNN's National Security Analyst Peter Bergen. "I saw a large plume of smoke rising after the sound of the blast."

The smoke was believed to be rising in an area that houses the headquarters of NATO's International Security Assistance Force.

The blast shattered the relative calm Kabul had experienced in recent days. It occurred despite beefed-up security ahead of the nation's second presidential election August 20.

I am feeling badly because we still have relatives in Kabul and we are up waiting to hear from them it is well past sun up there, close to ten am, so we are waiting and waiting.  I do not know if we will get much sleep tonight.

Father is speaking of going to Kabul again, seeing what he can do to help out but we fear for him.  We wonder if something were to happen to him what we would do.

God Bless

Amere~

That would be awful for someone to have relatives there right now. Oh how I wish there weren't any wars or violence. Idealistic I know- but I guess if at least we didn't pray about it peole would think we thought it was perfectly alright to go around killing people. Spiritualy it doesn't make sense. Thanks for this wonderful story Michelle.

With Love,
Cindy
