What none of us suspected though, was just how hard we would fight to allow my voice to be heard, to make sure I got the care I needed.

I have been asked many times over if I regret having served my country if I regret going to war, knowing everything I know now, knowing that it would change my life forever and land me in this chair, but the answer is no I don't regret having served my country, despite the lack of care we get the way we are treated, we are soldiers, and we are doing what we know is right.

I know when I was first flown back to the states from Germany, when I was first brought to Walter Reed, I had no idea what lay ahead of me, and my family was heartbroken.  Their active daughter now lay in a hospital bed unable to move her legs, a victim of war, but as time moved on I did not simoply see myself as a victim but I was a victor.  I made it back, I may be sitting down but I made it back.

What none of us suspected though, was just how hard we would fight to allow my voice to be heard, to make sure I got the care I needed.  As a solider I thought I would get the best medical care possible, and my family thought the same way, but sadly that was far from the case.

If I had not had other options, other insurance, I would be in a huge amount of trouble that I had, and I knew that some did not have all the help I had, they were the one's in real trouble, they were the ones I needed to speak up for.

I was fighting another war now, this time it was one against the Bureaucy of being a soldier.

To Be Continued...
