A man is known for his shooting skills.

Image of Texas sunset (c) 2009, by Karla Dorman.

I ain't seen anyone quite like him ...

I first saw this character last week.  Tall, lean, rangy-looking, with matted copper-colored hair and nondescript, colorless eyes, a big, hawk-shaped nose, a small, thin-lipped mouth that was always set in a sneer or straight line ... he blew into town, looking for only God knows what.

Ever since, people have been scared.  Seems that this fella has a score to settle with someone in our town.  What it is, I have no idea, but he seems to know how to work a gun.  Have seen him pick flies out of the air, hit cans from up to 50 to 100 yards away with deadly accuracy, and can draw a gun from his belt in what seems like mere seconds.

For this reason, I and several of my compadres have taken to calling the fella "Dead-Eye" because he is exactly that.  Seems to have a knack for findin' the target and hittin' it dead-on.

A guy like Dead-Eye would be great at findin' robbers or Injuns if they happen to arrive.  And if they do, boy will they have a surprise waitin' for them (that is, if Dead-Eye decides to stick around a while ...)!

Guess people are scared because they're afraid Dead-Eye will hit their women or children.  I don't know, but one thing IS for certain: seems that people have a sense of awe and wonder: they can't seem to stop staring at him, let alone, talkin' about him, especially when he starts spinnin' those guns between his fingers or actin' fancy when shootin' at his targets!

Somehow, I feel safer with Dead-Eye here.  I hope the feller stays a while; we can use some cleanin' up in our town!  Our town has been overrun with vermints, and not just the animal kind, either.  He looks like he could complete the job easily and swiftly!

~To be continued.~
