I was only five years old when our country was attacked. Yet what I can remember about that horrible day is something that I will remember for years to come.
What I remember most? The planes flying into one Tower (the North Tower). Then that second plane flying into the remaining tower. The people falling from the sky, plummeting hundreds of stories to their deaths below. The towers collapsing upon themselves and the smoke. Oh, the smoke!! The people fleeing to get away from the ash, looks of terror upon their faces. The steely resolve of our former president as he grappled the gravity of the event and what to say to a hurting America.
I also remember how we became United and cared for each other back then and cried out to God.
How I miss those days when we were so patriotic! Now we seem to have become more distanced than ever and the current president we have in office now certainly doesn't care about U.S. He only cares about his egotistical self and his interests.
To tell you the truth, he scares me. So does the current mayor of New York City. But that's another story. I won't delve into politics; right now, politics in general disgusts me.
Anyway, I ws only five when the attacks happened, so I grew up in the shadow of 9/11/01. I have seen the videos again and again; we also learned about it in school and heard people talk about it. Even I was affected: Lost two friends' parents. So many other people did, too, and once again they are forced to remember the horror they would all rather forget.
My heart breaks for them.
We ALL were affected: not just Americans perished ... many people from other parts of the world died as well. Seventy countries total lost citizens as a rsult of the attacks. So 9/11/01 was a WORLD event, not just an AMERICAN event.
It was the day that changed our nation forever. Our nation will never be the same again. EVER.
May God help us as we try to get through this sad day, and may God be with the families of the victims! Keep them all in your prayers! And may God have mercy on America, especially New York City and Washington, DC!
God bless America again! No, America: BLESS GOD!
May we never forget!! I know I won't! I CAN'T!
