A boy feels sorry for his neighbors who are both morbidly obese.

I feel sorry for Ginny* and her sister, Morganna*.

I mean, they are, more or less, both homebound, unable to go anywhere because of severe health problems and being very fat.  Both of them very easily weigh over 500 pounds: Ginny must weigh 550 and her sister is even bigger: she must be tipping the scales at nearly 600 pounds.  So between them, you're talking over 1,000 pounds in total poundage.

Ginny can walk but she has to stop every so often to catch her breath; when she gets it back she continues to walk.  Her sister, meanwhile, is bedridden and on oxygen.  Both sisters, who are in their 40s, live next door to me and I can't help but wonder what their lives must be like.

What do Ginny and Morganna do all day?  Do they watch those stupid talk shows or soap operas on television?  Do they play cards or some other kind of game?  Perhaps Monopoly or Parchesi?  Do they eat and eat?  Do they talk to each other or do they sleep?

Seems like the only time they do go out is whenever Morganna or Ginny have their doctor's appointments.  Seems they have one every week (oftentimes more often than that) .... that is, when the ambulance isn't over at their house, picking Morganna up because her blood pressure has skyrocketed through the roof again or is having another spell with her breathing.

I know they can't work: both are on governmental assistance (SSI/disability).  What money they do get probably goes towards their medical bills and doctor's visits or their medications; both probably take a snitload of drugs for this problem or that problem.

Hard telling.  Shouldn't judge, but I can't help myself.  I'm just a kid; I'm curious.

Whatever the reason, Ginny and Morganna's life doesn't sound like much fun.  I know I wouldn't like living that way.  If I were in their shoes, i'd do anything possible to try to get that excess weight off of me and do exercises to keep myself fit.  I don't think I would want to spend my days lying in a hospital bed, unable to breathe or do anything because I weigh five million pounds!

All I can do is pray for them that God can help them.  If anybody can, it's God.  After all, God can do anything; "with God, all things are possible" (Matthew 19:26), as it says in the Bible.  I just feel sorry for them; it's a shame that some people have to live like that.  Nobody deserves that.  EVER!

*Not their real names.

There are some situations that no on can do anything about and some people that no one but the people themselves can help. Very hard situation when there are two such as these sisters.

If this kid wants to know what their life is like, maybe he ought to go over there and find out. Sad one, Karen, well done.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

It's good that they have neighbors who keep them in their prayers.
