Johnny, aged 11, writes out his feelings about the situation in Iraq and around the world.

I hate war. War is such an ugly word, and because of it, innocent men, women, and even children and babies are dying or are being horribly maimed.

I also hate war because I feel that we don't need to be in Iraq helping them get their lives together after Saddam was captured. They aren't being nice to us (the bad ones are killing our people or hanging them off bridges or beheading others); why should we even BE there?? And all this stuff about the abuse done by Americans to the Iraqis...sure, they are our enemy, and yes, the Americans ARE wrong to act like this, but nobody seems to be raising a big stink about when Nicholas Berg was beheaded by terrorists or when the bad guys hung those four Americans from a bridge and celebrated! Why IS this??

I also hate war because we have a lot of nations who are mad at us, and the threat of more terror attacks against America and Americans still looms large; and I don't like feeling so scared all the time! I am just a little boy; I want to live life being a kid, not worry about whether we are going to get attacked again! That is NO way to live!! It doesn't help matters any when the news people keep reporting the bad news from Iraq or all over the world, and it certainly doesn't help when Al Quaeda keeps threatening to attack us again like they did on September 11, 2001!! The President keeps saying "Go on and live your lives as normally as possible"; but ever since September 11, 2001, it seems I have been having nightmare after nightmare, and I can't sleep! Every time I hear a plane or a jet go over, I think it is terrorists coming to get us, and it seems all I have done lately is cry!

The terrorists who are doing these acts need to be dealt with and STOPPED; yet, nobody is doing anything to find these people, and all they are doing is causing trouble by killing innocent people all over the world in the name of religion! I don't understand why they feel this way about us here in America, and I don't understand why they hate us so much! We didn't do anything to them; WHY, then, MUST they hate us so much?? If I were the President, I would close our borders, and I would be doing some heavy-duty background checking on people; and if I found out that they were aiding terrorists or were affiliated with terrorism somehow, I wouldn't think twice about sending them back where they came from! And if they were American, I would charge them with treason and put them in jail for life and wouldn't give them a durn THING!

All too often nowadays on the news you hear of yet more Americans being killed; or terrorists threatening to attack America, and frankly, I am getting sick and tired of all the news! I keep telling daddy not to watch the news, but he says we have to be informed, and we need to be ready in case something happens! Well, he may be ready, but I am NOT, and the ONLY thing I am interested in doing is finding a good hiding spot! I wouldn't have a chance to get away quickly if we were attacked (I am in a wheelchair), and I am sorry, but I don't want to die horribly or at the hands of some stupid terrorist!

War is stupid. Fighting isn't going to solve anything, and I am wondering why people just can't learn to get along. Sure, we may be different, but that doesn't mean we have to go around shooting or killing others, especially in the name of religion! That's DUMB!

Nice write Karen with some very good points. Yes war is bad but men have been fighting every since the beginning of time. War is even in the bible. guess it's just a part of life. l&pG

hey karen ... i like the story, but i think the language/voice is a little mature for an 11 year old ... the sentiments expressed therein are definitely worth writing about, though, and i know children of that age are probably more educated about such things than we wish they had to be. these are the days of our lives, though, aren't they...a thoughtful write!

unfortunately, if we get those terrorist, there are more waiting in the wings to fill their place. scary, isn't it?

God have's only going to get worse before it gets better. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. :)

Very well written, piercing emotions throughout. i think the answer to terrorism is education of our children.

(((HUGS))) and love, karla. :)
