Gemini's opinion about Svetlana Khorkina of Russia, who is crying foul over the gold medal won by the U.S.A.'s Carly Patterson in the women's all around in gymnastics.
I think it is a darn shame, if you want my honest opinion.
I am referring to Svetlana Khorkina and her attitude towards the U.S.'s Carly Patterson after she won the gold medal in the women's all around in gymnastics, making Carly the first American woman since Mary Lou Retton winning the gold medal in 1984, before I was even BORN! She has not been at all gracious about it, and she is still complaining that she was the one who should have won the gold medal instead of Carly.
Svetlana may be a talented gymnast, but what she is failing to realize is that she has already won gold several times in the Sydney (Australia) Summer Olympic games in 2000, and so she shouldn't be complaining! She has already struck gold where Carly hasn't, and if you ask me, it is all because of jealousy. Svetlana is considered to be the "diva" of women's gymnastics: at 5'5" tall and weighing not more than the uneven parallel bars (NOT really, but she IS thin!), she has the power, grace, and feminenity that makes women's gymnastics so exciting to watch, and she has proven herself to be a competant athlete! But her attitude stinks, and I am sorry to say, but she isn't acting very sportsmanlike when it comes to Carly's victory! She is going against the rules of good sportsmanship, and she is going to give women's gymnastics a bad name with her sour attitude!
Other gymnasts have complained about Svetlana's attitude, and even the former U.S. women's coach, Bela Karoly (he helped shaped Nadia Comenichi--I spelled that wrong, but oh, well--LOL into a gymnastics legend, and he also trained Mary Lou Retton of the United States to be as equal of a champion in women's gymnastics) says that her attitude is sour, as in sour grapes. I don't know what Svetlana's problem is, but I wish she would stop acting like a baby and accept the fact that she wasn't as good as Carly was, and she should be happy that she medaled! No, it may not have been the gold medal, but the fact is, she WON a medal, a silver medal, and she should be darn happy with what she got! There were many more gymnasts there who did NOT medal, and she has proven to be a very talented gymnast, and she should be happy that she was the second best in the world! Not many gymnasts, even on the Olympic level, can say they have done THAT!

Excellent.
A joy to read.
As I don't watch the olympics on a regular base, I did not know about this. Thanks for informing us.

(((karen)))
LOL at the line, "...not weighing much more than the uneven parallel bars..." *grins* she's about as skinny as them, isn't she
i think she (svetlana) had her heart set on winning the gold medal; she worked hard and trained hard and believed hard. but her routines weren't rock solid, and carly's were better. carly flat out deserved to win the gold medal.
and so do you, for penning this write. :) enjoyed!
and i'll gladly take the silver. 'cause you're much better on stories than me...i keep falling off. :)
(((HUGS))) and love, karla. :) |
