A short story of a game of tag that goes wild...

There are many mistakes, but this is a draft. So enjoy..

Welcome to the jungle.

The soggy ground felt cold under my hands. The fog was low. The graveyard was quiet. The only thing that gave the cemetery a supernatural feeling was the moon shining its strongest at four o clock, the moonlight illuminated the fog. Making it look as think as a blanket. I lay still on the ground. I was waiting. I was hoping by playing dead then they would leave me alone. But who knew there where two other people left. This had started as a game of laser tag and then it turned into a game of Russian roulette. Then hell it was warfare. Don’t ask it’s a long story for a long day and time is one thing that I don’t have now. I could smell the dew on the ground, my heart was racing; the sweat and the air’s humidity on my body were inseparable. The leaves made a crunching sound to my left. I peered through the darkness; my voice was caught in the back of my throat held back by fear. I couldn’t see anything. The crunching sound persisted. Heavy breathing followed each crunch, I knew who it was. Robert was an expert asmatic; being overweight had never helped his condition. His wheezing was a signal, I never really liked Robert but I didn’t hate him enough to kill him, I knew he would kill me if he got the chance but that was one thing that I was not prepared to do. I held on to the wooden handle of the machete. The blade sparkled in the moonlight. I prayed to God for forgiveness. I just wanted to scare him but if worst came to worse I knew I had to use it on him. The crunching noises were getting closer. His shadow dissolved as he walked into view. His shirt was splashed in red as if he had bathed in blood, he reminded me of some fat butcher from a horror movie. His eyes shifted from side to side and finally rested on me.

“Robert, I don’t want to hurt you,” I said.
“One step closer Josh and you’re done for,” he whispered back between wheezes.

We stood at a stand off, I raised the machete and pointed it to him as if I was going to run it trough his heart.
“Come on Robert, you don’t have to do this we can leave together”
“Liar,” he yelled
He inched closer the leave crunching under his feet.

I raised the machete; I grasped it so hard my hand began to hurt.

“Robert don’t do this” I yelled. He shifted he feet and started walking a circle.
A howl came from the distance. Wolves, I had never been fond of them and I have no intention of being mauled to death by one.

“Where’s Tommy,” I said.
“Tommy’s dead.” He said his eyes grew blank as he circled me , I followed him with the machete. “You should have seen what ray did to him. It was terrible. “ I’m getting out of here, I’m not going to let ray get to me, He’s a monster.
“Why are you covered in blood” I asked
“Jessica, she wouldn’t stop screaming” he said staring past me , his steps began to die down until he stood still he was staring past me. Feeling of anger rose inside me. Jessica had been a bitch and she was my ex. But she dint deserve to die. I had loved her a long time ago or at least I thought I did.
“I’m sorry Josh” he said.

Fury took hold of me. I wasn’t myself. He screamed as I swung the machete. The machete caught him across his stomach. I stood there holding the swing like a samurai. Nothing happened. He just stared at me wide eyed.
“You.. you…” he said. Like a magic trick his stomach began to bleed. He touched the gleaming liquid and put it to his face, He couldn’t recognize it.
“ you .. you…oh my God,” He said, “ tears streamed down his eyes. At the same time a ropy intestine hit the ground. He stood there trying to put them back inside. I just watched, I felt nothing. “ oh my god” he said. Each time his voice was getting more frantic until it reached a high-pitched scream. He franticly tried to shove his loins inside him. It was starting to look funny. I knew I had passed the line of sanity; I was in the world of the crazies. I began to laugh. He fell on his knees smashing his intestines, it made a squishing sound. Howls came from the darkness nearby. I knew the wolves would be here soon. They were going to be feasting on fresh meat tonight. Robert. Wheezed, trying to drag in the Air. The howl of the wolves had brought me to reality. I looked into his eyes; He looked like a fish trying to breath out of water. My conscious was beginning to attack me. I raised the machete and held it.
“Im going to end your pain now” I said.
He looked at me. His face turned into a grimace. “Fuck you mother Fucker”
He swung in the air. Something sharp caught my calf and brought me to the ground. The howls were coming closer I could hear the leaves rustling around us. Hundreds of eyes gleamed in the darkness. I swing the machete on his arm. It stopped at the bone. I screamed in pain. My calf felt like it was on fire. I pulled the machete but it wouldn’t give. I pulled with all my might, it let loose with a squishing sound that would haunt me in my nightmares. He screamed. I’ll kill you, I’ll kill you. I tried to stand up but my right leg wouldn’t cooperate. It felt numb. The pain was like fire it roared up my spine into my head. I started leaking blood. I used the machete to steady myself and started hopping away. I need to get to a hospital fast or I would be dead before dawn.
I ran as fast as I could, my leg would only partially cooperate. Screams followed behind me. I knew that the wolves had caught buffet, I just hoped that their feast would keep them entertained. There was one more guy out there in the wood. Ray was the most fucked up out of the group, he was the reason all this had begun. My lungs started to feel like they were on fire, I say head lights ahead of me. I was near the road. Something tackled me. My head hit a tree. It started to scream in pain. I still had a death grip on the machete but my arm felt numb. My world was turning dark. Someone turned me over I looked up . the moon light illuminated ray. He has that shit eating grin that made small children run away and hide behind their parents, he was a wacko, and you could tell that by just looking at him. He held a rock in his hand, he raised it and brought it down on my eye, the world went black in one eye. I could feel my eye getting puffy ooze flowed down to my side burns. I could see him raise it again. Fear crept through my body, I swung the machete, It caught him in his shoulder.
“God Dammit” he yelled. I kicked him off of me. He punched me in my stomach. I was feeling weak. I got up by some miracle and hobbled to the road. The machete slipped out my hands, I no longer had the strength to hold it. Head lights gleamed in the distance. Ray ran after me and tackled me into the road. The road smelled of oil, a small fog was creeping off of it. My body began to feel cold. I kicked ray in the groin. He huddled him self I kicked myself away next to a bush. I gasped for air. Ray started to crawl towards me. My lungs felt like they were on fire. I no longer felt my leg. I was feeling sleep come over me. Ray knelt on the ground and grabbed something out of his pocket. He aimed it at me I knew this was the end. I prayed to god for forgiveness. Head lights flickered on Ray and illuminated him. The car hit him, he went under the car. The car screeched to a halt. The last thing I saw was ray’s mangled Body. A feeling of Joy crept over me along with death as I realized that I had won the game a deadly game of tag.
