Seeing Rebekah Rachel did Susie a world of good. Her mood didn't turn negative again until we got home. She's very happy Rebekah Rachel asked her to be roommates after Susie's surgery. I know it's selfish but I am hoping Rebekah Rachel will be in the hospital until Susie is back on her feet, or at least close to it.
As you know, we had a very long day. They started out with x-rays at 7:30 this morning. That took over an hour because the doctor wanted to see her whole spine. Then she underwent an MRI but thankfully, she was sedated for that! I think that's the most peaceful I have seen her in weeks. After the MRI, they did a CAT scan. She was still slightly sedated from the previous test but she was more awake for it. The confined space doesn't bother her but the noise from the MRI is enough to give her a breakdown. Finally, we were sent down to the lab to have blood drawn. Susie has a HUGE fear of needles, so needless to say she didn't handle that too well. As much blood as they took, you would think they are feeding a vampire in the basement. The last stop of the day was the consult with the surgon and his team. He explained the surgery and what the recovery would be like to both of us. As I said before, Susie will be on her back, immoble for forty eight hours after the surgery, maybe more, depending on how she does. They expect her to stay in the hospital twelve to fourteen days post op. When she does go home, she will be in a back brace for six months after the surgery. As you know, Susie was quite freaked out after hearing all of this. I'm sure you could see it all over her face when we visited. Seeing Rebekah Rachel really helped Susie to get her mind off of things for a while. Yes, she was very afraid of hurting Rebekah Rachel. I about had to shove her toward the bed. She was afraid the slightest touch might cause Rebekah Rachel pain, which is really ridiculous in hindsight, consider Rebekah Rachel can't feel pain at all. I'll have to sit down and have a talk with Susie about that later. Since we have been home, Susie has been keeping to herself, staying in her room. The doctor did order a mild sedative for her to take until the surgery and I can double the dosage if she is having a really bad day. They are also admitting her the night before, in order to better control her panic. The fear is she will cause herself to have a seziure if she continues to be so freaked out.
I'm so glad the nurses let me bring Daniel down for a visit. I know Rebekah Rachel enjoyed getting to hold him and Susie enjoyed getting to hold and show off her little brother. Isn't she just a natural as a big sister. I really have been amazed at home well she deals with Daniel. I thought she would be more nervous. I can't wait for the other girls to get to meet him and see them interact with him as well. I hope they all take to him as well as Susie has.
The people at Helping Paws contacted me today. They believe they have a dog for Susie. Ironically, the dog's name is Becky. Can you believe that? I guess now Susie will have two best friends named Rebekah. They will bring the dog over to meet Susie tomorrow and go from there.
Well, the girls need their baths, so I had better go. I hope tonight goes better than the past few days. I really could use some sleep!
