there once was a lady who lived in a box
sides sealed shut
top open wide
looking out to the world
its ghastly silhouette
feeling nothing but hope
open to light

"oh please! oh please! come out!" said the girl
"its far too lonely inside those walls."
"you'll twist and twist and fade away.i want you to see this paradise."

"but paradise is all ill see." she said
"inside these walls everythings just.whats your idea of paradise?
help me to see through your eyes."

"well paradise is the land you see."
"the flowers, the flowers the whistling breeze.
the sunshine in the morning, and the moonlight at night.
the smiles and happiness! oh what a site!"

the lady took a breath, then a quick sigh.
for she only knew the things that were right.

"the world is no paradise" she finally said
"it's nothing but falsehoods one minute to the next.
sure the flowers are blooming and the sun shining bright, but what will you do once winter comes?
all the happiness will soon fade away, and the breeze, the breeze it will only get harsh.
the moonlight will fall once you enter your dreams.
this land is only temporary you see!"

the girl sat down as rain began to fall.
how pathetic she was!
not prepared at all!
she knew all things must come to an end.
but why oh why wait around till then?

sadness filled her eyes, and she finally said

"so all this time we've been playing pretend."
