Two young girls carry on a conversation via their computers.

This was inspired by Michelle Kidwell's series, "A Conversation Between Friends".

Cajun-Gurl says,

Hey!  Nicole? Are you awake? Are you even there?? HELLLOOOO!

Nick305 says,

Hi. Is that you, Ronee'?

Cajun-Gurl says,

Yeah. C'est moi. What you doing up?

Nick305 says,

Can't sleep. Too much pain, too much on my mind.

Cajun-Gurl says,

What's going on?

Nick305 says,

More surgery next week. On my hands. This may be the last time I can write for a while.

Cajun-Gurl says,

That's awful.

Nick305 says,

I know. I bet you can relate, with the surgeries you've had.

Cajun-Gurl says,

Yeah. *Silence*

Nick305 says,

Ronee'? You there? I was talking, then you sorta' disappeared.

Cajun-Gurl says,

Yeah. I was just talking to my cat, "Cajun". She just wandered into my room, now is on my bed, makin' bread, purrin' up a storm. It's adoRAble.

Nick305 says,

I love your kitty. She is so cute, and she is sooo friendly. I wish I had my dog, "Buster", but he went to my Aunt Cindy's because he is old, and he may be on his way to checkin' out. I miss him.

Cajun-Gurl says,

That's sad. I hate it when animals get sick or injured, and there's nothin' that can be done to help them. Yet I believe that they go on to a better place when they do pass away. I just hope they have the chance to end up in Heaven; that'd be great.

Nick305 says,

Yeah.

Nick305 says,

You never told me how your vacation to Louisiana was.

Cajun-Gurl says,

Sorry. It was great.

Nick305 says,

What did you do down there at the Crawfish Festival?

Cajun-Gurl says,

Oh, we did the usual: eat crawfish, dance to Cajun music, looked at crafts. Yet it gets better every year; more and more people come down for it, and it is a big deal for Breaux Bridge.

Nick305 says,

Did you perform?

Cajun-Gurl says,

Ya, buddy. I did. I love makin' the people happy with my Cajun music and my singing; it makes me feel good.

Nick305 says,

I'm glad. You know, you should really consider trying out for "American Idol"; I bet you'd win.

Cajun-Gurl says,

LOL Thanks, but I'm a little too young yet. Have two years before I am "qualified"; have to be 16 to try out.

Nick305 says,

Yeah, but didn't you try out a few years back?

Cajun-Gurl says,

Yeah, but they told me that very thing: too young. Yet they liked me; still, I was nervous.

Nick305 says,

If I had to sing, they'd boo  me off the stage. I can't sing worth a lick; can't carry a tune in a bucket.

Nick305 continues,

If I had to sing in front of Randy [Jackson], Paula [Abdul], or that creep Simon [Cowell], I'd pee my pants; they can be soo cruel!

Cajun-Gurl says,

Yeah, but they are honest, and sometimes you need that in a competition; makes you stronger in your drive to become a star. I know it has for me.

Nick305 says,

How do you handle rejection when you audition? I couldn't do it.

Cajun-Gurl says,

I just listen to their advice and try to work at betterin' myself. It's all I can do. The music biz is a tough go; you have to be unique, and have the drive in order to succeed. I mean, look at Kellie Pickler or Bucky Covington. They didn't win, but now they're suddenly big-time country stars, and all of a sudden they're HOT. Also look at last year's winner, Carrie Underwood: all of a sudden, she's THE big thing in country music.

Nick305 says,

Yeah.

Nick305 continues,

Does it bother you when people reject you when you try out because you're disabled? Do you think that has something to do with it?

Cajun-Gurl says,

Probably, which is stupid. People need to move on past that part of me and see me for WHO I am, NOT for WHAT I am. I have been fighting with this ever since I can remmber, and it's realllly gettin' old fast! I hate it when they make comments about my canes, or my braces, or worse, STARE. That drives me up the wall!

Nick305 says,

Yeah. I know what you mean. I mean, I use my crutches or my chair, and people say things to me all the time. Cruel, malicious things. It's no wonder I don't like going out in public; it embarrasses me.

Nick305 continues,

Yet you bounce through life like nothing's wrong. you're one of the happiest people I have seen. At times I get jealous because you have such a sunny outlook on life, and here I am, Little Miss Depression of 2007.

Cajun-Gurl says,

Nick, you gotta' learn to look at the good in life. It won't do you any good bein' sad all the time.

Nick305 says,

Yeah, but what's there to be happy about in my life? It's just mom and me, and with my health the way it is, it's hard to smile. I hurt too bad for one thing, and every year it gets worse.

Cajun-Gurl says,

Tell me about it. I hurt too, 24-7, but as long as I take my meds and do what my docs say, then I'm okay. I'd much rather be happy than be an ol' stick-in-the-mud; it doesn't do you any good to be sad all the time. I try to be happy because there's so much to enjoy in life.

Nick305 says,

Yeah, but you got your family. You have people to support you. I don't. Ever since my daddy died, I've had very little to smile about: daddy and I were really close.

Cajun-Gurl says,

I'm sorry. I wish there was something I could do to take the pain away. It really hurts to see you being so sad; it worries me. Big time.

Nick305 says,

Yeah.

Nick305 continues,

Well, I am getting tired. It's not even five in the morning. Too early to be up. If mom sees me on the computer at this early time, she'd ground me for sure. I'd better go.

Cajun-Gurl says,

Me, too. I am going back to sleep. No school today. In-service day. I can sleep in. Ahhh, blessed sleep! How I LOVE it! On that note, good night.

Nick305 says,

Over'n'out. Bye, Ronee'!

Cajun-Gurl says,

Au revoir, mon chere'! Laissez les bon temps rouler! Aaiieee!

Nick305 says,

Whatever.
