Louisiana updates us on the status of her son, Johnathon, who is currently in the hospital, in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, recovering from a severe seizure.

Saturday, September 22, 2007, 10:31 p.m., D.S.T., Nashville, Tennessee~

Dear Journal~

Louisiana here. Bill just got home from the hospital; he's now in the shower; then he's probably going straight to bed. He's been at the hospital since before six this morning; he is past the point of exhaustion.

As you have probably heard by now, our son, Johnathon, is in the hospital. He went in very early this morning; he had a severe seizure that didn't abate after five minutes; and it scared the holy hell out of all of us. We were in bed asleep when his dog, "Ginger", set up her warning bark, and Bill found Johnny in a seizure.

When we realized that Johnny was in trouble, we had Richard call for an ambulance. The ambulance came within a few minutes; Johnny continued to seize, even in the ambulance. The seizure didn't stop until he was safely esconced in the ER, where he was given powerful meds to stop it.

Johnny has finally awakened from his stuporous state, but he is not all there. He is acting confused, and he can't eat (he has a nose hose in his nose so his belly can get some rest). He is breathing with a ventilator, and so as a result he can't talk. He can follow simple commands, so that is a very encouraging sign.

Bill saw Johnny again this evening; Dr. Ram, his attending physician, still has his doubts about his outcome, but he's appearing to have more optimism regarding Johnny's situation. He should know more in a few days if the boy had any brain damage as a result of his lengthy convulsion.

The kids have been busy making Johnny get well cards, which Bill will take to the hospital after church tomorrow. I have been calling the PICU several times a day for updates; that way, I can keep my friends (and our church) abreast of just how he's doing. Both the computer and phone have been getting a heavy workout today; these workouts continue.

It is unclear as to what caused Johnny to have a seizure, but I think it may have been from the stress brought on by Rebekkah Cohen's latest situation. Johnny knows that she's in the hospital herself in London, England, where she now lives with her family, but he doesn't know much more than that except that she's very sick. She may make it, but then again, she may not. As for Susie Callaway, she's in even worse shape; things don't look that good for her. (The girls both tried to commit suicide.)

I have been trying to be strong for Johnny, but every time I think of him lying in the PICU (with tubes attached to him, no doubt), it breaks my heart. I wish I could be there to see him, or to be with him, but I'm on bedrest until the twins are born, so there's no way I could possibly visit Johnny. It's very upsetting.

Well, the phone is going off again, so I must go for now. I will write in here with another Johnny update in a day or so; I also have to write to Naomi; she e-mailed me earlier today. Take care, and God bless!

~Love, your friend, Louie May. :(

I hope Johnny makes it; Louisiana is already under enough stress. An excellent, taut write. Well done.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
