A mother continues to keep a vigil at the bedside of her comatose son, who is recovering from a virulent strain of bacterial meningitis that's left him desperately sick.
For the first time since my little boy, Bryson Blake, took sick with meningitis, doctors have finally given me some sense of hope regarding his prognosis.
Bryson is still in a coma; yet he is responding to doctors' commands more than he was. Best of all, he's responded to the latest round of neurological tests, which is nothing short of a miracle.
I still cry when I see him lying so small and still in that hospital bed, tubes and wires attached to him everywhere; however I know deep in my heart that he's doing better; the doctors have said so. I feel better now than I have in several weeks since this strange adventure first began.
I have been home several times; I needed to get away from this confining hospital atmosphere. I'm claustrophobic anyway; if I didn't get away from here soon I would have gone mad---
Well, the nurses have finished doing whatever they were doing to Bryson, so I'd best go now. I know this is short, but that's the way things go. Take care and I'll write in here again soon; hopefully the good news with Bryson will continue! Lord, I hope so! This waiting, this not knowing much of anything is about to kill me dead!!
~To be continued.~

A mother standing there, besides her child, impotent to do nothing to make her child better, other taking desitions, wait, jus wait until the heart aches and will give up, and then...wait a little more.
I am with her.

There is nothing sadder than a mother or father who's child is gravely ill. I have sat this type of vigil as I have said in past and it is heart breaking and leaves permanent worry scars for years afterwwards.

Sounds like things are on the uptick...good for Bryson! Hope all continues to improve, with no complications. He doesn't need any, neither does his mom. :) Well penned, Karen!
(((HUGS))) and love, Karla. |
