A daring young man describes his experience on a thrill ride he rode at the fair last summer.

~~~~I have never rode the TopSpin myself but maybe I may one of these days. (I just may regret it after getting off. My biggest challenge will probably be walking--AFTER the fact. NICE.) I may be older now, but the kid in me is emerging!! I'm young at heart! :)~~~~
I guess you can call me a daredevil type of guy. I'd have to be to do what I did last summer.
Last summer we went to the Tennessee State Fair, "we" being me and  my family. Mom, Pop, little sister Susie, my little brother Corey, and myself.
Name's Todd. I'm thirteen; just turned thirteen on Christmas Day. Anyway, back to my story.
At the fair, they had this neat new ride called "TopSpin", which is a spinning type of ride. If you don't get dizzy watching the riders on the ride, imagine how you'd be if you actually rode it.
Which is what my brother and myself did. Mom, Pop, and Susie wouldn't ride it.
Chickens.
Anyway, we heard screams coming from down the way a bit, and when I saw where the screams were coming from, I thought, now that is wicked-cool! I just gotta' try it! There was one kick-ass ride in front of our eyes. Immediately Corey's and my mouths started watering, and we got a rush of adrenaline.
We made up our minds immediately upon seeing the ride. We were going to ride it. It looked like it would be a blast to ride.
Corey and I got our tickets; then we went to the ride. When the operator of the contraption asked us if we were gonna ride, I said, "Hell, yeah!" We got on the thing, pulled the shoulder (and lap) bars down to secure us, and then we waited.
And waited.
And waited.
Waited for what seemed an eternity.
Then the ride operator started the thing. Started innocently enough--we slowly went up into the air--that's when all hell broke loose.
We leaned forward at a dangerous tilt until we were staring at the ground--and that's the last thing I remember before the scene in front of us started blending together. Sky--ground--we couldn't tell the difference between the two.
Suddenly I heard my little brother scream: "Shit!! I think I just crapped myself: my pants are wet!" Funny: I got that same feeling too. (I hoped it was only pee--and not something much worse--like puke!)
Great. That's just great! I bet someone got sick on the thing. And the stuff hit me!! O, gross-o-matic!!
Suddenly the wet feeling came back. That's when I saw jets of water being sprayed at us. O, great!! I remembered thinking: it's cruel enough that the ride operator spins us like a egg in a blender, then hang us at the top (upside-down, no less!)--then he has the nerve to wet us down??
Wonderful.
Maybe he does it to wash the sickies off those who lost their lunch while on the ride, I thought. I didn't lose my lunch, but I did get very queasy by the time the ride ended, especially when we flipped like something like a million times. In a row!!
I did enjoy the ride, though. It was rather cool, albeit scary as hell! In fact, I enjoyed it so much I ended up riding TopSpin again--five times in a row! Now I love the ride, and I can't wait until fair/amusement park season starts up again this year so I can ride it!!!
Yeah, buddy, the TopSpin is coolness! It's my new favorite ride!!
Karen just reading your description made me sick;-) Yuuuuuuk! But I bet it is exciting for those who like rides of that kind. I never liked anything that flips over and turns around etc, the Roller Coaster is enough thrill for me! Great fun write!
