Not that I am an expert on it but I have leaned a lot over the past thirty-seven years. along with being through one DIVORCE.
I have come to realize that it takes TWO to make a marriage work after years of trying to do it on my own and ended up failing miserably at the first one. I have opened my eyes and made a list of all the things wrong and together my husband vowed not to let this happen in our relationship and so we continue to work on it everyday for the rest of our lives.

Love and Marriage goes hand in hand, for  without love there never will be a real marriage.
Over the years I have found that there are rules to a happy, loving and lasting marriage.

1...Always respect each other, never put each other down and don't alow others to do it. 2...You need to know you have each other to depend on through thick and thin. 3...Never ask or accept opinions from others, they don't see or feel what you hold for your partner, so you wouldn't deal with things the way they would.
4... Never go to bed not talking, you may be upset with each other but that don't mean you have stopped loving each other, for true love cannot be turned on and off.
5... Always remind each other that you love one another, it could be your last chance to say it before you close your eyes at night or walk out the door to go to work or run errands. Life has proven to be way too short.
6...Never leave each other's bed through anger, it is hard to come back to it and you promised to be together through sickness and health, through the good times and bad till death do you part.
7... Remember it's the little things that count, making a nice cup of tea/coffee after he/she has had a hard day. having that bubble bath ran to relax. The smell of a home cooked dinner or just a welcoming smile as you arrive home.
8...Everyone is going to have their arguments and disagreements through life. That is what makes a relationship stronger. No two people are the same in this world.  It doesn't matter who is right or wrong as long as you can both work together for a solution to the problem.
9... Never let anger build up, catch it while it is still a molehill and not a mountain. Plan meals at the table everyday so you can communicate without a TV on, keep tuned into each others lives, show an interrest. Communicate, it is very important.

10...Two people come together to make a life as one, of course they do things and think differently as they compromise on the way things will be.
Life is short and I look forward to everyday I wake up and find my husband in my life still loving and caring for me as I love and care for him.
I have been told that he has me spoiled but the truth is we do as much for each other and have fallen into our ways of pleasing one another, but I am always
on the receiving end of a smile as I am always returning them.
Life is good and I am not willing to cut it short on love and happiness for we have a wonderful relationship that is followed by a few simple agreements between two. It takes two to make a marrage work, one person cannot do alone and children will not make a relationship work if there is no love to build the foundation on.    Remember I am not an expert but this works for us . WHY?  because we love each other and it really do take two to make love and marriage work.

Rose, one most definitely feels the love you and your husband have for one another. I applaud you for making such a public declaration as so often we do not express love. Perhaps if we did our world would not be filled with so much negativity. A beautiful write. May you and your hubby enjoy many more wonderful years here on this earth.

Thought along this line too but did not get it written on paper. Glad you came through with it and all the words are so true. I have heard and followed many of them.

Very well stated and some good advice but I would add adadtability to the list for as years change so do people and sometimes we just have to learn to go with the flow.

I agree with EP. You've included most of the main points. What gets me sometimes is these women who marry someone who's a little more than a jerk and even have kids by them. Later they wonder what went wrong.
