“Becka, watch out, he’s going to shoot!” The words were almost caught in my throat, and Becka stood still, I dived on top of Becka, taking the bullet. I wasn’t about to let my partner die, she was one of the best field agents in the Bureau, why did she freeze up the way she did?
“No Heather.!” Becka found her voice. “I should have taken the bullet.”
“I can’t loose you Becka you’re like a sister to me.” I said.
“You’re going to be okay.” Becka tried to convince me.
“I can’t feel my legs.” The implicates of what that meant had not registered yet, and maybe at the moment that was for the best.
“Heather you got to make it, I am supposed to dance at your wedding. I don’t know if Kevin could make it without you.” Becka was trying to be strong, but I could hear the fear in her voice. This job was dangerous, we all knew that, but you never think something is going to happen to you or your partner until it actually happens.
I knew I wasn’t going to die, I don’t know how I knew, but I knew but something wasn’t right. Soon I heard sirens in the distance, and found myself relaxing a little.
“Becka try to get him.” I said. “he’s going to walk free.”
“I can’t leave you Heather, not like this.”
“Call Kevin.” I managed before I felt my mind clouding with sleep.
“I will.” Becka said, grabbing the cell phone from her pocket.
“ I need him.” I managed to find my voice once again, before I fell into a deep sleep.
