Mark Ratinauer writes in his journal prior to heading off to school.

Friday, May 30, 2008, McKinney, Tx., 6:22 a.m.~

Dear Journal~

Mark here.  The kid they call "Rat-Nose".  Sorry if I haven't written in here since April; been busy, trying to cope with being misplaced from that stupid storm of last month.  We will be moving back to our home within the next several weeks; am bored beyond all get out!

Oh, my aunt and uncle are okay (they'll do in a pinch), but their glib attitude towards Christ has me frustrated.  Still can't talk to them about salvation; they tune me out like a dead radio.  So now I don't even bother; let them do my own thing, and I do mine.

School is fixin' to end within a few weeks (at about the time we move back to our house); can't wait.  School is such a waste of time; I can think of better ways to utilize my time than to be holed up in a stuffy classroom for a million hours a day, hearing the same old tired lessons day in and day out!!

I'd much rather be riding my moped or skateboarding the day away!  I'm a kid; hey, I gotta have my freedom from the prison life they call school!!

I may have a girlfriend:  Teena Marie.  She has designs on me.  She's such a hottie:  built right in just the correct places, long, shiny red hair, huge blue eyes that turn green when she's p'o'ed.  A soft, musical voice when she speaks, a killer voice she uses when she sings.  Martina McBride ain't got nothin' on Teena Marie; she's good!!  (She ought'er try out for "America's Got Talent"! I'm serious; she has a VOICE!!)

Teena and me have been spendin' some time together during and after school.  No hanky panky, but we do study together, eat lunch together, ride the bus together.  Man, I think of her, and my palms, my body breaks out in a king-sized sweat.  I think I am in lovvvvve....

Well, I gotta get dressed; still sittin' here in my underwear.  Not proper school attire; ma would blow a fuse if she saw me still undressed; she hates it when I dilly-dally before school.  So before she or pops blow a gasket on my behalf, I'd best get dressed and out the door, so I don't miss the bus.  Take care, will write in here again!

Man, I can't wait for summer vacation!!

~As ever, your friend, Rat-Nose (Mark Ratinauer). :)

God bless you!

I think that Teena hasn't got a Rat-Nose but an adorable hamster.

Karen, I really liked this story. It's light and airy, a bit humorous and sounds just like a young fellow who can't wait for school to be out. You did a great job on this one.
