Who doesn't like a great story? Here's one about how I turned a sponsorship into a long-term partnership. In doing so, I easily converted 67 cents - the price of a stamp, paper, and ink, into a $22,000 a year partnership. But the best has yet to come; I'm going to show you how you can do the same.
Hello, Fran. This is Bryan from Progressive. I like what I read. Please call me. Tomorrow afternoon looks good.
That was my voicemail 'talking.' I was ready to meet Bryan that day. Why? Because I knew, absolutely knew ... I had another sponsor.
I thought, 'Since I put in the time and effort to secure a sponsor, why not go ahead and do a little more work and turn it into a long-term partnership?'
So, I set myself up with a cup of Lipton, hot, green tea and spent a few minutes that evening studying Progressive's corporate website - the one I printed three days earlier. Then I reviewed the research I took on Bryan and his market. Still sipping on my cup of tea, I skimmed over my notes about his competitors' sites and then tucked them neatly in my "Progressive" file.
When I met Bryan the next day. I addressed his needs and concerns using the 'research' I did for a reference. Our 26-minute conversation about sponsoring one of my programs, ended in an annual contract. The simple agreement included a cash stipend and complementary services for me, and customized promotional and brand awareness services for Progressive Insurance. But the real payoff is a predictable means of opportunities to attract loyal customers, extensive multi-media exposure, an enhanced community outreach, and sales for us both.
And that's how I turned a 67 cents into 22K in less than 6.7 days. It's also how I expect to turn Isuzu into a multi-year, $36,000 client. Just to name a 'two.' My job was to compellingly show Progressive Insurance 'what was in it for them.' It doing so, I uncovered how they were missing out on profits and then illustrated how I could deliver - or add to their 'bottom line. Progressive Insurance not only loved me for it - they paid me for it.
Did you know that you can be a 'small outfit,' and still maintain a competitive edge? Well, you can. And that's because when you secure a corporate sponsor, you become a mammoth in the marketplace. Today, 65% of my operations revenue now comes from my sponsors as the result of me mastering the process of converting my sponsorships into long-term partnerships.
