A Catholic Joke from One
I am a Christian first and foremost, but I happen to be of the Roman Catholic persuasion - probably one of the few who love to participate and fellowship so much with my Protestant brethren - especially per 92.7 The Bridge and Bethany. I would say that I'm a "Roaming Catholic!" Anyway, I always strve to find the positive in my relationships. As a matter of fact, I was a member of the Louisiana Interchurch Conference's Aging Commission in the past. So anyway, here's the joke: a man at a restaurant was paying for his meal, and the waitress noted that he had given to much money; after returning the overpaid amount, he remarked, "You must be a Christian!" And her reply was, "No, I'm a Catholic!" So we all can sometimes get caught up in our "denomination," but the only true value that cuts through all is Jesus Christ! So let's all remember to re-member with Him, whatever our affiliation may be. And, yes, I believe that I am saved, and have dedicated my life to a personal relationship and commitment to Him. Remember what He said at the Last Supper: "Do This In Remembrance of Me." And He said "This Is My Body, This is My Blood." He didn't say, "This is a symbol ..." God Bless Y'all!

He also said that he was a vine and a door. He was, in fact, not a literal vine nor a literal door. That aside, I like Catholics, they know how to laugh at themselves. :D

I tried explaining this very point to a group I've relegated to the "Extreme Religious Cult" category only to be excoriated every which way by both the pastor and congregants, who audaciously used actual Bible verses in an attempt to justify their hateful rage.

That experience led me to begin writing a piece entitled: "Trolling Religious Extremists Is Fun Yet Strangely Satisfying". While not yet finished, the column details my experience with this group - one that started with an innocent enough attempt to engage them in small talk, and ended with me withdrawing from the conversation in the wake of an all-out digital assault by the crazed reverend and his flock.
