RE: Ted Glines - “The Devil”
TED - RIGHT ON, PARDNER!
Even as a life-time DAMN YANKEE, I can appreciate this tune, with its duality of overtones and undertones. And, like those TWINS done said - you did them PROUD!
As I read your words, I could easily see the faces of Billy Crystal and Jack Palance in the movie "City Slickers." The honest ignorance of Yankees to the old Wiles and Ways of the South and Southwest became very poignant.
Then, I saw "Those Mighty Herds of Red-Eyed Cows Ridin' in the Sky" - Yippee I Yay - Yippee I O ... Ghost Riders in The Sky!"
Then, my mind wandered back to The Riders of The Purple Sage, and their - "Cool Clear Water" - “At night I tred the barren waste, without a taste of water ..."
Next, came the haunting melody of "Tumbling Tumbleweed" -
Gene Autry, Champion, and Pat Buttram - Roy Rogers (Leonard Sly) and Trigger, Dale Evans, and Daisey, and Buttercup, and Bullet, and George "GABBY" Hayes -
Tom Mix and Tony, Hopalong Cassidy (William Boyd) - Lash Larue - Hoot Gibson - Whip Wilson - THE CISCO KID AND PANCHO - The Lone Ranger and Tonto - Hi-Yo SILVER and Get 'um up SCOUT - Those Thrilling Days of Yester-Year !!!
SEE - my Friend, even little tyke, Damned Yankees, in big Eastern Cities went to the movies, and LOVED WESTERNS - OATERS, as some called them - HEROES in White Hats - VILLAINS in Black Hats -
Whip-Snortin' - Gun-Totin' - Leather-Slappin' - Shoot-em-Ups! And, let's not forget the amazing ACCURACY of those long-gone HEROES - shootin' the pistolas out of the VILLAINS hands, with NO BLOOD on the screen! WOW!
Les Paul and Mary Ford's - "In My Adobe Hacienda ..."
"HAPPY TRAILS TO YOU - 'TIL WE MEET AGAIN ..."
ADELANTE, MUCHACHOS! VIA CON DIOS!

| Super. What memories! Have you seen the remake of 3:10 to Yuma with Russell Crowe? I haven't, but I plan to in a few days. Take care. |

Love that pic. My kind of horse; kickin back, thinkin horsey thoughts and dreamin horsey dreams. I love the Westerns, even when they show a jet-contrail in the corner of the sky, and even when Hopalong jumps into the river and comes out the other side dry as a bone still wearing his white hat, and even when the Apaches were great horse-riders (mostly, Apaches thought horses were delicious), and even when those six-shooters managed to fire 20 or 30 shots (Hollywood rocks).
Bring back the Oaters -- I love 'em :-)

| I hear you. Now adays it is the youthful directors and producers who garner the finances needed for them to produce crap reminiscent of their ninteno and x box fascination as kids. They like hi tech and special effects and where did the story line got? Was there one? Does anyone care? And gratuitous sex plastered over the large screen using air brushed body doubles? Bring back the OATERS. Cheers, adeose to ya J'nia |

Been a big fan of the genre since I was a tiny tyke, and I've seen nearly every Western movie ever made. And suprisingly, the latest Hollywood Western - Appaloosa - with Ed Harris and Jeremy Irons ain't too bad. But I did prefer the original 3:10 To Yuma with Glenn Ford over the recent re-make with Russell Crowe.
And if you wanna read a good Western novel, check out Ed Kostro's 'Gold River Canyon' - available in the A.D. Bookstore! |

Not making "big-time" at the theaters, now...but what is new-genre today will be "old-hat" tomorrow, and maybe the Western will return...lotta great ones in the past. Have you seen "Open Range"(2003)? Star and Director - Kevin Costner; co-stars - Robert Duvall and Annette Bening. Great Western.
Your list brings back memories of the great ones!
Blessings and Love - Micke |
