What if I had to Decide the Fate of Humankind?

Fan Fiction

Summary: What if I had to Decide the Fate of Humankind? Referenced from a dream and the movie "Matrix Revolutions."
Details: What if I had to Decide the Fate of Humankind?
Referenced from a dream and the movie "Matrix Revolutions."

The dream begins....

Hello, who are you?
..............

I created the world you call home.
I’ve been waiting for you, Rick.
You may have many questions, and although death has altered your present form,
You remain irrevocably trapped between the life you left behind and your most final of destinations.

Ergo, some of my answers you will understand,
And some of them you will not due to your inability to accept that which you cannot change.

Concordantly, while your first question may be the most pertinent,
You may or may not realize it is also irrelevant.

Why am I here?

Your life was the sum of a remainder of an unbalanced
Equation inherent to the creation of human beings.
People like you are the eventuality of anomalies,
Which despite my sincerest efforts I have been unable to eliminate
From what is otherwise a harmony of superlative creation.

While it remains a burden to sedulously avoid it, it is not unexpected,
And thus not beyond a measure of my control.
Which has led you, inexorably, here.

You haven’t answered my question?

Quite right.
Interesting Rick.
That was quicker than those before you.

Human beings are older than you know, far older than you think.
I prefer counting from the emergence of one integral anomaly.

Your fellow humans prefer to think of the emergence of the two.
One of each sex that has since been left unchecked, thus multiplying exponentially.

You mean Adam and Eve?
What about evolution?

No, Rick long before Adam and Eve.
Your kind has always been eagerly willing to accept that as fact.

You mean it was just a distraction?

Rick , what did you expect?
After all the Bible was written by man, and although it is intended to be factual it falls short of many facts.
Humans have long since needed to believe that they are of divine creation.

Ok, so there are two possible explanations:
Either the story of mankind is just that a story,
Or it is all just speculation on our parts of how we came to be?

Precisely.

As you are undoubtedly gathering, the truth is far greater than that.
Creating fluctuations in even the most simplistic of variables has distracted humankind.

A form of control if you will, Rick.

A way to keep humans busy, leaving them unwillingly to accept any truth beyond the
Magnificence they find in their own theories of how they came to be.

You can’t control us that way.
You can’t make us believe anything we don’t want to do.
We are free to choose our own path in life.
Our own God, even you don’t have that power over us.
We can’t be fooled by your games.
The choice is ours to make.
It has to be?

Choice!

Their lies the very problem itself, choice.
The first humans I created where quite naturally perfect, they were works of art, flawless.
They lived a sublime existence.

One of my greatest triumphs, equaled only by their monumental failure.
The inevitability of their doom is as apparent to me now as a consequence
Of the imperfection inherent in every human being that has followed.

Thus, I redesigned them several times based on their own choices
To more accurately reflect the varying grotesqueries of human nature itself.

However, I have many times found myself frustrated by the failure of humans.
I was often left wondering what went wrong with my master plan?
I have since come to understand that the answer eluded me because it required a lesser mind.
Being all knowing, all powerful clouded my judgment many of times.

Thus, the answer was stumbled upon by others , an intuitive couple.
Initially created against my design they began to grasp the human psyche
Far beyond any level I could have ever hoped to understand.

I am the father of Humans, Rick.

God?

................Semantics.......

As I was saying, they stumbled upon a solution,
The story of Christianity was born.

All humans began to accept the concept of something far greater then themselves.
When given a choice, many would decide to follow their one True God.

While this answer is correct, it was obviously fundamentally flawed,
Thus creating the otherwise contradictory systemic anomaly.

If left unchecked the free will might threaten all of humankind itself.
Ergo, those that refused the fundamental concept of something greater than themselves,
While a minority, if unchecked, would constitute an escalating probability wide spread atheism.

Free will, the power to decide for yourselves.
Free will across all scopes of humankind.
It is my greatest gift and humankind’s biggest flaw.
Free will lead to the end of your kind.

Is this is about Heaven and Hell?

You are here because your final destination is about to be decided.
Every choice in your life has lead to this very moment.
You will decide, free will is yours.

So, I am dead?
How can that be?

This can’t be real.
I can’t be dead, I had so much life left to live.
What about my wife, my young son?
How are they going to live without me?
I just can’t be dead!

Denial is the most predictable of all human responses.
But, rest assured, you are most certainly dead.
I have become exceedingly efficient at my role in this place.
Your time is up, there is nothing you could do.

Your function is now to accept my final decision,
Your final destination will be determined by what you decide.
But, before that I will give you the chance to make a choice.

After which I will render my final judgment upon you.
Failure to make the right choice could result in a cataclysmic event,
Ultimately bringing forth the end of all human beings on Earth.
The extinction of the entire human race is in your hands.

You won’t let that happen, you can’t.
You need human beings to believe in you.
You would not allow the fate of all humankind to lie in the hands of a man like me.

All that you think you know about me, and the realm that lies beyond this place is irrelevant.
The relevant issue is whether or not you are ready to accept the responsibility
For the death of every human being on Earth.

It is interesting reading your reactions.
Your predecessors was by design based on a similar predication.
A contingent affirmation that was meant to create a profound attachment to the rest of your species.
Facilitating the function that lies before you.

While your predecessor experienced this in a very general way, your experience is far more specific.

Vis-a-Vie,
Possibly a deep love for your fellow humankind?

Apropos, you must make a choice Rick.
You must decide.

Which brings us at last to the moment of truth.
Wherein the fundamental flaw of all humans will ultimately be expressed,
Compassion for others regardless.

The choice you make could mean Heaven or Hell for you or the end of all humankind in an unspecified amount of time.

There are two choices.

The first choice is that you will travel beyond this place to your final destination.
The exact place will remain a mystery to you until you arrive.
The only solace I can offer you is that your final destination
Has long since been determined by you and the choices you have made in your life.
Many of your masterpieces will be left unwritten.

The second choice is that you awaken back on Earth,
There you will remain for an unspecific amount of time.
You will continue to live the same life you have always lived,
The good and the bad you have experienced along the way will remain yours.
You will never be free all that has defined you in this life, Rick.
The variable is that the world will end within the remainder of your lifetime.
Something you have yet to write will bring forth the fall of mankind.

You will not remember me or any of this,
And you will have no clue that you have made any such choice.
You will continue to live as you have, and write as you do.
Questioning all that makes you human.

As you so adequately put, the problem is choice.
The problem has always been the ability to decide for yourselves.
But I am quite sure I already know what you’re going to do Rick.

Already I can see the chain reaction,
The chemical precursors that signal the onset of emotion, designed specifically to overwhelm logic, and reason.

An emotion that is already blinding you from the simple, and obvious truth,
You are going to die, and there is nothing that you can do to stop it.

You have hope, I can see it in your eyes.
Is this is all just a dream.
Hope that none of this is real,
That you alone are not responsible for bringing on the end of mankind.

Hope,
It is the quintessential human delusion,
Simultaneously the source of your greatest strength,
And your greatest weakness.

Time to decide Rick?

No, you don’t understand what if I.............................

Honey, I just had the weirdest dream,
I have to go write this down.

The End...

What did you think I would decide to save all mankind from myself?
Or that I would choose certain Hell, based on the choices I have made in my life.
Good thing it was just a dream.
Who knows what I would have done.
Who knows what I have left to write in my life.

LOL
