"My primary job is to observe people Down There, and I don't like what I'm seeing, especially since the Anniversary of Jesus's Birth is quickly approaching."

An angel in Heaven observes people around the holidays, and she doesn't like what she sees.

I don't know why I do this.  It's depressing, and if there's one thing I shouldn't be Up Here, it's depressed.

Name's Holly.  I'm an angel.  A Heavenly Angel.  My primary job is to observe people Down There, and I don't like what I am seeing, especially now that the Anniversary of Jesus's Birth is quickly approaching.

It seems that people Down There have forgotten the true meaning of Christmas; they have become self-absorbed, selfish, unkind, and apathetic.  They've forgotten the meaning behind "goodwill toward all mankind" or have forgotten about the birth of our Lord altogether.

Now people address each other by saying "Happy Holidays".  I guess I can understand why:  Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years all run together in a matter of weeks; it's no wonder people are so stressed out, planning for parties, family get togethers, making the holidays extra special for their friends or loved ones.

Or they buy, buy, buy, spend, spend, spend, as if their money was water.  Then they complain when the credit card bills come in January.  Well, if they didn't act so greedy, they'd have some money left over.  And they didn't need to spend extravagant amounts just so "teenaged Johnny could have that flat screen television he always dreamed of".

Or people get fed up whenever someone wants to display a creche' or Nativity scene in their yard while people who don't celebrate Christmas (due to their beliefs, or religion, if you will) can without anyone getting bent out of shape about it.  It seems that those who believe in the Holy One (my Boss) don't want to speak up for fear of "offending".

I've never heard anything so ridiculous in my ilfe!!  How about if they band together and say:  "NO MORE!!"??

And get this:  people down there don't want to call the Christmas tree a Christmas tree anymore.  They want to call it a "holiday tree".  Have you ever heard anything so stupid??  It's a CHRISTMAS tree, NOT a holiday tree!!  Since when did the word "Christmas" become a four-letter (okay, okay, a nine-letter) swear word????

I see people lying homeless in the streets, with no place to call home, or no food in their hungry bellies, and people walk by them as if they were invisible.  Some of these people are very old or very, very young.  It's pathetic!!  Have you ever heard about "extending a helping hand"?  What if those sad people were someone you knew or loved??  What would you do then??

Or those people who fight wars (Veterans as well as soldiers), with damaged bodies and brains.  Don't they matter too??  How come you didn't don the uniform of the military service?  Or were you too chicken????

What about helping them????  They earned the right to be treated with compassion, and given a heroes' welcome home, not to be kicked to the curb like some mangy, flea-bitten dog!!

Veterans should be living in mansions, not being on the street or worrying where their next meal will be coming from!!

I just don't understand why my Boss just doesn't get up off His Duff and go Down There and take matters into His own hands.  He just sits there, watching as I do; I guess He's hoping that people turn to Him when the chips are down, or when things get ugly, which they have.  I don't know how He can do it:  if I were God, I'd be zapping everyone in a fit of unadulterated rage and making things right!!

Guess that's why I'm an angel and He's God.  He says He knows what He's doing, but I wonder.

~Holly.  :(

I guess the end justifies the means in some greedy cases. The end would be cleverly disguised as R.I.P. God always has the last word any way you look at it.
Very clever editorial that I will back.
Blessings and love,

The only thing I do not like about this story is the reference GOD does not know what he is doing. Everything that happens is for a reason. We know there are people out there with Pagan beliefs. Santa Claus for instance. But JESUS is the son of GOD. That should be the celebration. Everything else Karen I like about this story.

GOD BLESS

Hear! Hear! hope this Christmas they granted our wishes, and maybe for once that silent majority should start shouting loud and clear!

Karen, you know that I am Jewish, yet I, along with my family, and by this I mean my parent's family then my family have always loved Christmas and the Christmas season. No, we did not nor do we now pray to Jesus Christ, but do know that it is His time and love to see Nativity scenes and the colors of the season. I agree that this should be a time for "Goodwill to all mankind." Though I am Jewish, I always look forward to Christmas eve because on this evening I attend the Methodist church along with my girlfriend for the service and love the sounds and, yes, do come away feeling refreshed and somehow better than before I entered. It bothers me, a lot, when the joy and scenes of the season are stifled by those that feel there should be no such public display.
