She woke up with a start. She didn't know what startled her out of her sleep but something did. Did someone move in her room? Was there someone in her house?
She waited in silence. Maybe she just imagined it.

...........
.............
There! Again! Just as her eyes were feeling heavy she heard it. Much closer this time. Like it was waiting for her concentration to falter. Oh, she was wide awake now. She waited. Her eyes open.
.....
.......
.........
She held her breath. her eyes were moving in her head. Trying to see whatever she could without moving her head. All she could see was the wall and the shadow of the tree outside, moving in the wind, making it much harder to stay calm.
....
.......
Maybe she should just sleep. She told herself to calm down. It was her imagination. No one was in her house. No one could be. He doors were locked. Her security system was on. Nothing could.....
A soft creak of the wooden flooring just outside her door. She stopped thinking. Panic was reaching it's optimum levels. What was happening. A drop of sweat trickled down her forehead and ended on her pillow. She felt the wetness near her ear.
.......
She could feel her eyes filling up with tears. Her throat had gone dry. She stayed absolutely still. Her blanket stopped rising and falling. Nothing sounded. Silence was ringing in her ears. Her pupils in her eyes were big, trying to let in as much light as possible. Her senses were very sharp, but now they were on high alert. Her heart beat stopped ringing in her ear. She opened her mouth to shout.
.......
........
the door knob turned.
......
........
She started chocking. Her eyes started burning. Her lungs were on fore. Her chest was hurting like her heart would tear it open to come out and escape.
..........................................................
......................................................................................................................
...........................................................................................................................
The door opened. Slowly, the creak was a thousand times louder in her ears. Yet her hands did not move to cover them. They just lay there. Paralyzed.
.............
Another soft creak on the wooden floor.
.............
Move. Jessica move! Her mind said it but her body just refused.

A soft and scared voiced called out:
"Mommy, Can i sleep here. I think there's a monster under my bed."
