Find the time to do the things you love to do. If it's only for a few minutes a day, it's more that you would do if you did nothing.

As an author, I often hear from fans saying how much they love to write. These wishful authors have a story safely tucked away somewhere, either in their thoughts, started in a chapter or two, or they may even have a full, completed manuscript stored in the My Documents folder of their computer for sometime in the future.

It is sometimes difficult to find the time to do the things we really enjoy. You may show up for a job every day, or have your hands full as a busy mom chasing hear, there, and everywhere. By the time you’re home from a trying day at the office, or you finally have the kids tucked in bed for the night, or both, your exhaustion has most likely led you to dreamland before the 10 o’clock news. Although I’ve been writing for years, I have been through both of these scenarios.  And, as a mother of four boys, I am the first to realize it is not always easy finding the time to write, or any other craft you may enjoy.  What I did, even when my kids were younger, was make the time. If it was only 15 minutes before the boys would awaken, or while they were watching a favorite television program, it was 15 minutes worth of words that I didn’t have the day before.

When my youngest son was four, I began working nights as a unit secretary at a local hospital. I used my lunch break to write, arrived home at 7am to get three of the kids off to school, copied what I handwrote at the hospital onto my computer while my youngest watched Sesame Street, and continued my day as a mom. I didn’t work every night, so I kept pressing to write more at any free moment I could grasp. It took two years, but I finally finished my first novel, LOVE FOR ANGELA. Now, the kids are older with my youngest being 14. There is still the job, but during the day, now. There is still the cooking, cleaning, and abundance of laundry. However, every evening I sit back in my chair with my feet up, park my laptop on my lap with a favorite television show in the background, and I type away my thoughts. Now, my second novel, WE CAN LOVE AGAIN, is published. So, if you have a story in your mind, write it down. If a chapter or two is already complete, keep it going. And, if your full manuscript is just taking kilobytes of room on your computer, polish it up and find a publisher!
