This is from an article I wrote from my local newspaper shortly before the first anniversary of 9/11

Two weeks ago I had a dream I was riding in a cab in lower Manhattan. I’d told the taxi driver that I had never been to New York and was looking forward to seeing the World Trade Center in person. He ignored me because he had already heard it many times before.
Suddenly, I looked out the cab window and up. What I saw was so vivid and real that to this day I still can’t believe it was a dream. The sun was setting and the twin towers reflected a golden light. Was this a metaphor for what happened or inspiration to let me know that they will shine forever? I believe it was the latter.
Relationships between people and nations are a lot like the Twin Towers: they take years of hard work and toil to build up and only minutes to tear down. Since 9/11 I have learned to treat all fellow Americans with the consideration and respect they deserve—regardless of race or religious preference.

I truly believe that most, not all, but most Americans do treat fellow Americans with the consideration and respect that they deserve.
