To be an alcoholic one must understand it is not a choice..., it is something we are born with and if not controlled, can ruin a life and all of those around it. The choice is each and every one of ours to accept, love and honor while forgiving without condition..., or not.

My father is an alcoholic
I live and feel his pain
It hurts to see him suffer
And pains me when he's slain
Through years and years of therapy
I've researched every choice
Tried hard enough to fix it
Then, I listened to his voice
Gave my all to cover up
Even tried to walk away
Now, I fillith my own cup
In my heart he'll always stay
As God above my witness
I forgave his every strike
For hating him or alcohol
Festers feelings I don't like
He is more than just my daddy
He's a friend without an end
I refuse to be so caddy
Block my love or play pretend
With respect for what he did
Do not judge or make him pay
He did raise me as his kid
Shared his love then paved the way

My Choice?

Suzi, This poem is so beautiful because you accept your daddy just the way he is. Sober, or drunk. He is a good man and stayed by your side because you never judged only loved...You are the glue that kept everything together! Love you girlfriend :)

Thank you, Tony

I wanted to place this poem in the poetry section but it appears I have run out of available free space. For now, I cannot pay the membership fees to gain further access into the den but plan to do so when one of my two books are published and ready to market.

Thanks again, Tony! You are a very sweet friend who came highly recommended by a very dear friend, Chessly Nesci.

May the New Year bring you loads of peace and hugs~

A very good heartfelt prose. I like the end where you show your emotion, Suzi this prose belongs in the poetry section where it can get the attention it deserves.
