She taught me to examine the supply before I began my demanding. She questioned the horse, and why, at times, it even desired that drink. I was roughly 11 years old when I was first introduced to Tori Amos' music, and in the 17+ years of subsequent fandom and adulation, I've often feared that her influence would result in some parodic performances of my own.
Myself and many others graced with the knowledge of her work consider her a living legend in the best sense--not 100 dollars per ticket, but audiences leaving with a wholehearted feeling of life's utter completion--and, to have musical/personal traits even slightly resembling hers would honor me, all embarassment aside.
Since my facebook/myspace playlists make it fairly obvious (and, sometimes, dreadlock hue), I felt it time to document the years I've been a fan, & what an effective lifeboat her lyrics were in the most dire of my situations. As with any decent artist, the topics she touches upon are broad, and her approach unapologetically strong; human. She never subscribed to stardom equalling Godly strength. I've been a bassist, writer, artist, singer, and guitarist for over half my life, and wish her many more years in (our) fickle, "superhero"-dominated craft.....
