Men were walking on the moon and in America, anything seemed possible.

From the time he was a little boy Mitch wanted to do something incredible—something no one else had done. He wanted superpowers. Almost every boy wanted superpowers, inspired by comic books and TV shows of the day. Men were walking on the moon and in America, anything seemed possible.
Mitch was full of exuberance and peculiar ambition for such a young boy. He was different—handsome with lots of girlfriends. They said he was cute. Mitch hated that—no one with superpowers should be cute. He had dirty-blond hair, high cheek-bones and a distinctive crooked smile. Quite the ladies’ man at such a young age. But he knew this would not be his destiny. Adult life would be completely different than his youth. The cute face would fade. The innocent smile would slowly vanish and give way to the numbing normality of grown-up life. Boyhood charm could not last.
