Having spoken to the police about Mia's disappearance, Hannah decides to make her own enquiries at the dentist's surgery where Mia had her fangs fitted.

April 1972
Stepping down from the back of the double decker bus, Hannah passed the area where Mia had been abducted and continued round the corner towards the door to the dentist’s surgery.
Coming to a stop outside the closed door, she opened it and entered. Walking through the narrow corridor, she emerged into the reception room.
The nurse standing behind the counter looked up as she approached, “The surgery will be closing in a few minutes, but if you want to make an appointment for later in the week I could put you down for Friday afternoon at quarter to three.”
“I was actually wondering if you could tell what time Mia Gideon left yesterday.” Hannah leaned a little closer to the reception desk, “I’ve already spoken with the police and the constable I spoke to mentioned some kind of incident just round the corner, a woman was snatched right off the street and a man was injured.”
Emily Armstrong glared back, “You’re not with the police?”
“No, I’m Mia’s roommate. She didn’t come home last night.”
Rising from behind the desk, Emily leaned forward, a hint of venomous anger entering her voice. “Since you are not from the police, I’m going to have to ask you to leave these premises.”
Hannah took a few steps back, “There’s a Detective Inspector Falk who might be interested in knowing about this conversation.”
A quick glance at her watch made a smile appear on Emily’s lips, “We’re closing, you have to leave.”
Stepping out from behind the desk, Emily followed Hannah as she left the building without saying another word.
Locking the door, Emily headed straight back to the desk and picked up the phone. Dialling a memorised number, she raised the receiver to her ear. “You need to tell the Master that we have a problem.”
Stepping out of the shower, Hannah covered herself with the large pink towel and left the bathroom. Crossing the hall into her bedroom, she plugged in the hairdryer and turned it on.
The noise from the hairdryer preventing Hannah from hearing the key being turned in the lock to the flat door, she remained oblivious to the door beginning to be pushed open.
The hairdryer did not drown out the sound of the flat door slamming shut and Hannah turned it off as soon as she heard the door closing.
Leaving the hairdryer on the table next to her bed, she stepped back into the hall and began to approach the door to the living room.
Hannah stopped in the open doorway, staring at the figure standing on the other side of the couch. “Mia?”
Mia remained staring at the wall in complete silence for several moments, the bottom of the long black gown lingering almost too close to the electric fire for safety.
Approaching the back of the couch, Hannah watched Mia turn, her attention becoming focused on the two marks on the side of her friend’s neck. “Where have you been?”
Mia moved away from the fire, getting closer to the front of the couch. “You’ve been doing some naughty things, Hannah. My Master isn’t pleased with you.”
A nervous tremor of fear found its way into Hannah’s voice, “It’s a little early for Halloween, isn’t it?” Instinct made her take a few steps back towards the open doorway to the hall, “Cut it out, you’re beginning to scare me.”
“Only beginning.” Mia began to make her way around the couch, “Guess I’m going to have to work harder then.”
Still framed in the doorway, Hannah did not move quick enough when Mia made her move, flashing forward.
Grabbed by her elbows, she was smashed against the wall, terror filling her eyes as she watched Mia’s lips parting to show her long fangs.
Fear making her close her eyes, Hannah braced herself for the feeling of those fangs ripping into her neck.
