Mom's Day, May 8, 2011, Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, Crawfish Festival~
Dear Journal~
Nothin' like eating pounds of spiced-up Cajun-style crawfish until your belly hurts or watching everyone dance their fool legs off! Seems once the music started, the people haven't stopped dancing even for a second! Wonder how they can keep going like that .... I know I couldn't do it; couldn't do it back then when I could walk: definitely can't do it now! My dancing days are long over! LOL
Johnathon Sandusky here. Having a ball at the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival; I am here with my family, and it feels good to get away from the demands of school or just living every day. Feels good not to worry about my health or other issues pressing down on my heart. I can kick back, throw my head back, and yell with the rest of 'em and act like a complete idiot! LOL
The weather here has been fantastic: temps in the middle to upper eighties, and lower than normal humidiies: makes it a lot easier on my breathing/heart! The only issue I've really had is getting sunburnt; I look like I could be thrown into the pot WITH the crawfish! +OW+ LOL
I have been listening to scads of music; you name it, and it was featured: conjunto (at a CAJUN festival?? Yep! LOL). Country. Rock. Reggae. Gospel. Bluegrass. And of course, zydeco and Cajun, which rules in this part of the country. Saw a bunch of great bands, known and obscure (up-and-coming). Even my sis performed, but I was more interested in seeing Wayne Toups or Steve Riley and his Mamou Playboys. They were very good; I really enjoyed them so much!
Mom danced her legs off; she's now sitting on one of the park benches going "OW"! LOL Seems since she got her back fixed, she hasn't stopped for a second; she's turned into the human equivelant of the Energizer Bunny! LOL You canNOT slow her down!
We even spoiled her for Mother's Day: we took her out to eat at the Samurai, which is a new Japanese style restaurant. We made pigs out of ourselves once we got past the waiting; we waited for a table for nearly two hours! It was nuts there!! But as for the food, WOW!! The sushi was to die for!! It was fantastic!!
Now the festival is about to wind down and close up shop for another year. It was a howling success; over 30,000 people came! Got lots of junk (souvenirs) to take home with me; don't know what I am gonna do with HALF of what I got! LOL We will probably retire for the night to our hotel and call it a day; we are all exhausted! Think I could sleep for a YEAR!! LOL
Well, you take care and God bless! Talk to you again when I get back to Tennessee!
~Johnathon. :D
