A little boy hates having to take a bath. The dirtier he is, the happier he seems to be, much to the annoyance of family, friends, and teachers.

Image of rain and puddle (c) 2011, by Karla Dorman.

I don't know what I am going to do about my little brother.  He is starting to become an embarrassment, not only to me and the family, but anyone else who happens to come into direct contact with him.

Stanley is eight years old.  In many ways, he is a typical little boy: he loves to play, spend his time outdoors as much as possible when the weather is good, bug his family, and read comic, horror, or mystery books.  He is a cute little kid, with spiky blonde hair, big, blue eyes, and freckles adorning his face, but then you realize that he is dirty.  Very much so.

And he smells.  In fact, he smells so badly, people have taken to calling him "Stinky Stanley".  I think he would be happy living in a pig pen with the pigs.  The kid absolutely loathes having to take a bath.  Anytime you mention soap or bathing, you would think we were killing him, the way he fusses and carries on.

He will wear the same clothes four or even five days in a row, if he had his way.  When he takes off his socks and shoes, it's a wonder the paint or wallpaper doesn't peel off the walls, the smell is so nefarious.  His hair is often caked with mud or dirt, and he could give the famed "Peanuts" character, "Pig-Pen", a run for his money.  In fact, they are so much alike, they could be brothers!

The teachers at school have sent notes home to our parents about Stan's odor, and no matter how hard mom or dad try to get him to take a bath, he won't have anything to do with it.  If you ask me, I think Stanley's got a major psychological problem because he certainly isn't acting normal.  He is only inviting trouble because he doesn't take his personal hygiene into consideration.  It is beyond disgusting at times!

Whenever we go anywhere, people hold their noses whenever we walk by.  They can smell Stanley a mile off, he stinks so much.  It is embarrassing because he looks like a little street urchin instead of a normal eight-year-old boy.  His shoes are filthy, his socks are ripped and stretched out at the tops (and very dirty as well), and his shorts and shirt have holes or stains of dirt, food, and heaven knows what else all over the front and back.  I think his nose must have stopped working; he does't even seem to even bother cleaning himself up any!

What am I going to do? I don't want to be called Stinky Sarah; I already get picked on enough at school about my smelly little brother as it is!  It is getting to the point where I am more than ready to throw him into the washing machine; the kid needs a good, soaking cleaning!!  Ugh!!
