One night, the grandfather visited his wife of sixty years unending; lovers still much in love.
He was feeling guilty about failing to give more unconditional love.
The visits to the assisted living home filled the void of his wife's diminished thoughts, like water constantly emptying from flowing stream.
He went into room, ever so silently. He then crawled into the bed covers with her and gently placed his hand over her head to rub and comfort. She knew he was there but she didn't answer.
A little while passed. He leaned over, he said to her, "Honey, remember the Water?"
"You loved the Water, the way Water playful finds its way to your heart and mind." Though he smiled; he ached. "Remember the Hawaiian Waterfall, the pools below, how peaceful, how quiet they were.
Do you recall how bright the rainbows arched over the mist?"
Her eyes spoke!
Blinking back as if to say, "Water means a lot to me; I want you to know that I love you, always have, always will."
The silence did not matter anymore. Outside the window, a gentle spattering of rain drops graced the scene, a perfect sign to begin and end this journey of unconditional love.
