A young boy decides to start a gratitude journal and write down the blessings in his life.

November 22, 2011~

Dear Gratitude Journal~

My pastor-father, Johnny, suggested that each of us kids start a "gratitude journal", to write down the blessings that God has given to us in our lives.  So here is mine.

My name is Jedidiah Octavious Williams.  I am nine years old and live with my family in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.  My daddy, Johnny, has his own church (Christ Redeemer Baptist Church), and my mamma, Ethelene, she sings in the choir.  She also is busy raising us, the kids.  There are five of us kids: Jontrius, Johnny, Jr. (Li'l Man), Jasmine, me (Jedediah), and Jacuinta (Jackie).  That's from the oldest down to the baby of the famly.

When I grow up, I want to either be a pastor like Daddy,  or a cartoonist.  I love to draw.  I love to draw cartoons or pictures of animals.  Daddy says I am gifted; I guess that mans I'm very good.  I also want to be a singer like Andrae' Couch or Donnie McClurken, who both sing gospel music; they are very good at what they do.  Every time I hear their music (or Sandy Patty), I want to fly straight up to Heaven!!

I am in the fourth grade at Taylor Elementary.  My teacher's name is Ms. Simmins, and she is really sweet.  I really like her!  I do well in school and I am proud of my good grades.  So is my family.

I like to do many things, among them drawing, writing stories, reading (Daddy and Mamma both say I am a voracious reader; I read all the time!), going to church and listenin' to Daddy preaching and the choir singing, hangin' out with my friends (we play basketball, soccer, or football together), and annoying the fire outta Jackie.  She is only six and still believes in monsters under the bed.  Sometimes we boys love to tease her, but Daddy always says, "God's gonna get cha for that; apologize to your sister and repent of your mischief.  God don't like ugly behavior", so we end up making up with Jackie.

I am happy today.  We don't have school until next Monday.  Thanskgiving break.  Our last day before Thanksgiving break was yesterday.  Today, I didn't get up until a half hour ago.  I actually got to sleep in and it felt NICE!!

Anyway, I am thankful for many things.  One of them is my family.  Another big thing I am thankful for is that I asked Jesus into my heart when I was nearly Jackie's age.  I was five years old when I asked Jesus into my heart.  Daddy led me in the Sinner's Prayer and I knew that God had come into my life.  I felt good and I felt happy.  Very happy!  More things I am thankful for include having good friends, being able to run, talk, and walk, and being able to draw, read, or write, or go to church every week.

I don't know what I would do if I didn't have God in my life ... or my family.  I would probably be very sad, for one thing.  Some of the kids at my school say they don't believe in God, and that makes me very sad.  It's no wonder they are so bad and are always getting into some sort of trouble.  Me, I couldn't live like that, so this is why I am glad I have God in my life and that my Daddy is a preacher!

Well, I gotta get my grub face on and eat breakfast.  Then I will probably get dressed and decide what to do from there.  Probably read a little and play with my brothers and sisters.  I hope you start counting your blessings; it would do you a lot of good!
