Fersheteh heart pounded every time she went into her secret place, each noise made her heart skip a beat, because anytime it could be her Father, one of her brothers or sisters who came upon her secret lace. Even her sisters would tell, because they would fear punishment themselves, and they would watch the punishment, even the death of Feresheteh as if they enjoyed it, because they believed that was the will of Allah.

Fersheteh knew that her life could be at risk. She had turned to Christ, a sin worthy of death in her extremist father’s eyes. He was proud of his connections with the Taliban, and would murder in the name of Islam. She shuttered just thinking about it.
Being a Christian in Afghanistan could be a definite death sentence, but she could not deny Christ. She had come to Christ and could not deny what she knew to be the truth. Even at the risk of death she could deny Christ. And the fact was she was risking death.
She did her best to hide the Bible her supplier had smuggled in her.   She hid it not so much for her safety, but the safety of her supplier. He had a family to think of, and she knew if her Father found out he would have no problem destroying his entire family.
When her Father went to the Mosque or some Taliban hideout she would sneak in to where she hid her Bible and read. It was God’s had that led her to read Matthew 5:1-10
Matthew 5
Introduction to the Sermon on the Mount
1 Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, 2 and he began to teach them.
The Beatitudes
He said:
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Fersheteh no longer wanted a part of this mean God her father served. She knew not all Muslims were like her Father, she had friends who were Muslims, everyone in Afghanistan nearly was a Muslim, being a Christian was a sure death sentence, in this society where every public Christian church had been destroyed. Even if Feresheteh was blessed enough to escape this country her troubles were not over, many who left were found and murdered. No one did anything, because it was just the way things were. She could never understand this, nor would she want to.

"Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."
