I hope Aunt Dolores realized how much I looked up to her....
Heroes
When I was a little girl my hero was my aunt. I always looked up to Aunt Dolores. She was a registered nurse who set up an Army hospital tent in South Africa during WWII.
After the war she worked in a hospital during the night. I remember her coming home very early in the morning, wearing her white uniform. She was coming home and getting ready to sleep as I was getting up ready to start my day.
One day I mentioned to my Grandmother I wanted to have my picture taken with Aunt Dolores wearing her uniform.
By the time that information got filtered down to Aunt Dolores she was already crawling into bed after working a long shift.
I found that picture a few days ago. It brought tears to my eyes when I remembered that morning.
Aunt Dolores crawled out of bed, put on a fresh uniform, placed her nurses cap on her head and called for me to join her for a "photo shoot".
Over the years I've had many "heroes". Some of them are still here with me, and some of them like my dear Aunt have already gone to be with the Lord.
Who has been a big influence in your life?
I am also wondering if I have been a good influence on someone else life?
I hope my aunt realized how much that little six year old girl looked up to her.
