The silence was eerie something did not feel right about this night. Ana did not like this feeling, perhaps it was because she was alone. Jelena was at her Mom visiting, and now Ana had the whole big house to herself. It got her to thinking about how she longed for a husband and children to feel the house with noise and laughter. When she was alone like this and not working on one of her books, and often even when she was her thoughts went back to her Grandfather, and what that monster had done. She didn’t like her thoughts going here but they did regardless. She just had to focus on something else, but it was hard.
Ana tried to remind herself that her Grandfather was in prison that she was safe, but her only thought was that her grandfather had ways of getting to her even from prison. He had people on the outside who would only be glad to help. It was frightening to think about that, but it was the fact, so Ana always had to be careful, they all did! And Vania was always in the line of danger, because she was a cop, her Grandfather hated cops her Mother, her Father and her sister included. Actually Ana was sure that there wasn’t any person that this man truly cared about. Maybe her Grandmother, but even that was doubtful. More than likely she was just another pawn in his games!
The wind howled in the distance and before long Ana heard the thunder and the lightening. And rain pattering on the roof! The noise was only the rain and Ana found herself relieved. The power may go off, but if it did the generators would kick in, because being in the pitch black absolutely terrified Ana! It went back to her childhood, from the times her Grandfather had scared her to death, the times he had nearly taken her life. She knew that not even the daylight would keep her safe, but she felt safer in the light. Even when she was sleeping she kept a light on because she was too afraid to fall asleep without some sort of light on. At times her fear of the dark was paralyzing and caused more troubles than she liked.
Lord I know we are not supposed to be controlled by fear like this, you are greater than our fears, but I am still so afraid of the dark. I don’t like it, and I am paralyzed by it far too often. I don’t even like going to events in the evening because of being afraid of getting caught in the dark. I know that I have to stop this, but I really don’t know how. I have tried to give it to you, but I guess I am just having trouble letting go.
Ana turned on the television, hoping to find something on television worth watching that would keep her mind off the fact that she was alone on this stormy night. She had to stop acting like a scared child, she was a woman now, with a career and a home of her own, and she was old enough to be home alone, still she didn’t like it, especially not on stormy nights like this. She was going to have to get over that though and she knew it. She could not always live in fear, and she had to have faith in the Lord, and in the justice system. Her greatest faith came in the Lord of course, because far too often the justice system failed but God never did. He may not answer us in the way we expected but he always heard our prayers and we could be thankful for that.
Sometimes if Vania knew a storm was coming she would bring herself and the kids over to Ana’s for the night or ask Ana over to her house, but unfortunately this was not one of those times so she was going to have to keep herself occupied. Hence the television and the books she was trying to get lost in. She had read all the books on her shelf and she wasn’t about to go out in the weather to get more though and there really wasn’t a whole lot on television! Still she kept it on just for the noise and the company.
1 John 4
On Denying the Incarnation
1 Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3 but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.
4 You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. 5 They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. 6 We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit[a] of truth and the spirit of falsehood.
God’s Love and Ours
7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.
13 This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit. 14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. 15 If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God. 16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.
God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. 17 This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. 18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
19 We love because he first loved us. 20 Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. 21 And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.
Ana closed her bible finding comfort in the words of the Lord. When she read the word it often did ease her fear for a time, and she found relief in the word. This night was no different, comfort came in the Lord as it always did, but a few hours later Ana found herself jolted out of bed, by the sound of crashing, the sound of glass breaking, this was no wind, this was something else. Someone had gotten in Ana’s house and all she could do was pray that they got whatever they were coming for and left. She hated to think about what might happen if they saw her their alone. She found herself dialing her sisters number at the station in the middle of the night, afraid of what might happen.
Lord whoever is here, whatever is happening keep me safe and keep Vania safe. I do not want her to walk into danger because of me, but if someone is in here I cannot fight them off alone. I cannot fight them alone Lord! So please send her here quickly and keep us safe!
