When does the hatred ever end, we woke up Christmas morning to find a cross burned in our yard, the reason we dared have an education, it does not seem fair, that we should be singled out this way, but some would like to think we are nothing more than animals and should not be afforded the opportunity to learn, it does not seem fair, but we are African American in the south and that is the price we must pay.
We do not ask to be treated this way, to be treated like second class citizens, to be forced to go to schools that are falling apart, to be lynched for standing our ground, but it happens. Perhaps someday things will change, but right now it seems so far away.
I am so tired of being treated like an animal, life was so different in California than it is in Birmingham Alabama, and if it were not for my family needing me and me needing to help others I would stay there, but something has to be done, changes have to be made. We can not let hate win.
It is sad that in this day and age, in 1936 we are still in the stone ages when it comes to equality. Being educated I feel the need to make a difference, to show everyone we deserve to be afforded the same opportunties as everyone else, we are not different for others except for the fact that our skin is darker. We bleed red just like everyone else, and we can learn just as well as anyone else.
Well I must got now, I have church in the morning and it is growing rather late. Perhaps tomorrow will bring change, we can only pray.
