Summer past all too quickly and before long Sienna and Meredith were preparing to go off to college. Thankfully it was not too far away from everything and everyone, in fact they were both going to be living at home with their families so the adjustment would not be too difficult. Kelsea would be following in their footsteps in another year and actually Sienna was looking forward to that time.
Sienna had spent a lot of the summer practicing dance and preparing for college. They were excited and nervous all wrapped into one. Meredith and Sienna had worked hard to get where they were and looked forward to what tomorrow had to offer. Having worked so hard made Sienna appreciate all she had been given she knew that she could not have succeeded the way she had without the hard work but more importantly without the help of the good Lord and the support of her family and friends.
“I can’t believe this day is finally here we are at the start of living our lives.” Sienna said.
“It’s kind of frightening and exciting all rolled into one.”
“No arguments there.”
They were as prepared as they could be for this day but that did not stop them from feeling a little nervous and apprehensive. Truly Sienna and Meredith were embarking on the start of their adult lives. They were both just a few months shy of turning eighteen, and the excitement of everything new and fresh was getting to them both. They both knew that with the Lord they would get through this day and all the excitement it had to offer, it was by God’s grace they come this far and by his grace they would make it further.
Lord thank you for getting us here and for blessing us the way you have blessed us and for getting us as far as you have in life. I know I could not be here without you good Lord. You have helped me through so much good Lord I know that without you I would not have come as far as I have. I ask for your continued blessing dear Lord for my family, my friends and myself. I know we are unworthy dear Lord but you continue to bless us anyway.
The college campus was bigger than Sienna remembered but that was the case a lot of the times when you are faced with something up front. Despite all of this Sienna was grateful that this day had come and she was ready to embrace whatever college had to offer for her.
This was going to be an exciting day for Sienna and Meredith and Kelsea would be starting her senior year in another short year she would be the one going to college and starting her own life. Their childhoods had slipped by quickly and before long they would be embarking on their lives. Kelsea was thankful that she would have Sienna and Meredith to show her the ropes when she started college next year. The fact that she had her sister and her sister’s best friend to look up to was going to give Kelsea advantage over some of her classmates.
“Next year at this time this will be you embarking on something new and exciting.” Sienna said to her sister and they were all preparing for this day.
“I know I’m so glad that I will have you and Meredith to show me the ropes.”
“We will do our best to help you anyway we can when the time comes. In the meantime enjoy the last year of high school. You will never get to experience this again.”
“I know Sienna I plan on working hard and doing well but I also plan on having fun.”
“That sounds like the perfect plan to me.”
Before Sienna left for her first day of classes she took the time for her devotions. This time it took her to Hebrew Chapter 1
God’s Final Word: His Son
1 In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. 3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. 4 So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs.
The Son Superior to Angels
5 For to which of the angels did God ever say,
“You are my Son;
today I have become your Father”[a]?
“I will be his Father,
and he will be my Son”[b]?
6 And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says,
“Let all God’s angels worship him.”[c]
7 In speaking of the angels he says,
“He makes his angels spirits,
and his servants flames of fire.”[d]
8 But about the Son he says,
“Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever;
a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom.
9 You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness;
therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions
by anointing you with the oil of joy.”[e]
10 He also says,
“In the beginning, Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth,
and the heavens are the work of your hands.
11 They will perish, but you remain;
they will all wear out like a garment.
12 You will roll them up like a robe;
like a garment they will be changed.
But you remain the same,
and your years will never end.”[f]
13 To which of the angels did God ever say,
“Sit at my right hand
until I make your enemies
a footstool for your feet”[g]?
14 Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?
After reading the word Sienna felt more ready to start this day and her journey as an adult. Actually she had faced the journey first when she had been shot and even before that when she and Kelsea had their innocence stolen as little girls in many ways both girls had been forced to grow up then. It had not been fair to them but that was just the way things were and they would have to live with that, by the grace of God they had overcome scars both inwardly and outwardly and they were slowly learning the importance of letting those things go and not holding on to the darkness of what had happened in the past. If they continued to live in the past the past would win and they were both grateful that they did not allow that to happen.
Thank you Lord for letting Kelsea and I see the importance of letting things go and showing us that letting them go is not the same as not making someone pay for their crimes. Lord you know what happened to us and you know how hard it was for us to endure and yet you have given us the strength to forgive showing us that holding onto bitterness would not do anything to harm us. You’ve got Kelsea and I so far Lord, and we both understand that we could not have made it this far without you, you loved us unconditionally and continue to do so and we are blessed because of that. I know that the world’s eyes I should not even be here today but Lord you had something special planned for me and I plan on following your will in my life. I know it will not always easy but Lord I also know that you will make away for us in this life and we will find joy in serving you. I thank you for the gifts you’ve given us Kelsea’s ability to create with her words and my gift of dance we are all unique in our gifts because you made us that way and we appreciate the gifts we have been given. Thank you Lord and we ask that you bless Kelsea on her first day of her senior year and bless Meredith and I as we start college. Thank you Jesus for your many blessings and for answered prayers. In Jesus name amen.
After Sienna prayed she once again found herself turning to her Bible to find the encouragement and strength she needed to start off her college career. She would not get through the next few years without a lot of prayer and time in the Lord.
Jesus Has Risen
1 After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.
2 There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. 4 The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.
5 The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6 He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. 7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”
8 So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9 Suddenly Jesus met them. “Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.”
The Guards’ Report
11 While the women were on their way, some of the guards went into the city and reported to the chief priests everything that had happened. 12 When the chief priests had met with the elders and devised a plan, they gave the soldiers a large sum of money, 13 telling them, “You are to say, ‘His disciples came during the night and stole him away while we were asleep.’ 14 If this report gets to the governor, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.” 15 So the soldiers took the money and did as they were instructed. And this story has been widely circulated among the Jews to this very day.
The Great Commission
16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
If the good Lord could be crucified and rise from the dead then certainly Sienna could make it through college and whatever life afterwards had to offer her. She prayed that somewhere in those plans for her future but she would take whatever he had to give. Still she felt the nudging that somehow, someway she was meant to be a missionary and help others see the joy of serving the Lord. The chair would not stop her any more than it had for her dancing. If the Lord meant for Sienna to be a missionary it would happen whether or not she was in the chair.
