Johnathon Sandusky writing. I am afraid I haven't been doing too well these past few weeks. Not so much ME, per se, but about my aunt by marriage, Kendra Mae. I've been extremely concerned about her ...
See, two weeks ago, she got into a wreck when a drunk driver slammed into her van. The driver's side had the most damage and as a result, Kendra got seriously hurt. Doctors think she is going to be okay, but she has a long, hard road of recovery ahead of her. Kendra is currently drifting in and out of consciousness; when we saw her earlier, she was awake, but she wasn't really making any sense. She suffered a bad head injury.
Her one daughter, Katie, was hurt herself, but she has since been released from the hospital, where she continues to recover at home. I'm just thankful that Katie (and Kendra) weren't killed; it could have very easily been so much worse.
Poor Rebekka has been beside herself. I have been worrying about her, fearing that she will get sick, which would be the last thing we both need, as I'm not really physically able to care for her. I have been trying to be strong for her, but when we've seen Kendra lying in that hospital bed, fighting like a tiger for her life, it's so difficult and it's all I can do to keep from falling apart myself.
The drunk driver who hit the van drove off. The police are still combing the area, interviewing people who witnessed the accident, to see if they can pin down any clues as to who did this.
We just saw Kendra a while ago; she was back into a sea of unconsciousness. Doctors and nurses were trying to get her to respond, but at least her vital signs have been fairly stable, so we are all thankful for that. Hopefully when we see her later, she will be awake (and somewhat aware). Right now, though, we're in the cafeteria, trying to eat, but it's hard to eat when none of us really have that much of an appetite (plus I hate hospital food anyway).
Mom was the one who told us about Kendra when it first happened and I have had to become the strong one, even though in reality, I'm about as strong as a sack of wet tea bags. Rebekka has been getting very little sleep and seems to cry at the drop of a hat. She is so worried about her aunt; after all, Kendra is her mother's sister. I am very worried about my wife.
Just keep us all in your prayers; we all could use a major miracle! Yet mostly pray for Kendra; she's the one who really needs all the prayers she can possibly get! Also, pray for her husband and family; they are all hurting, too, not just their Momma! Thanks in advance!
