Dilbert The Duck-Hearted.

A duck is a girl's best friend.

Dilbert is my buddy, my pal.

I love him so much!

I have had him since about six months ago when Mom and Dad rescued him.  He had been injured by some wild dogs and now he cannot fly: his one wing was badly damaged.

Yet it doesn't seem to slow him down.  He loves to swim, eat out of my hand, sit on my lap and listen to me play the piano or sing, watch me as I write or play on the computer (quacking joyfully all the while), and be with people.  He absolutely loves people; Dilbert hates to be alone!

Besides Dilbert, who is an all white duck with a bright orange bill and feet, we have two cats Tommy and Pickles (they have since learned not to get on Dilbert's bad side; he will nip and peck hard!), and five dogs, all Pomeranians: Chuckles, Teeny-Bit, Smilin' Joe, Cutesie-Poo, and Goldie.  We love animals.

Besides the animals and my parents, I have two brothers, both younger (I am 12; my name is Ellie, by the way), and our grandmother Jo (short for Josephine) lives with us, too.  We have a busy, happy household.

When we first got Dil, he was a tiny yellow ball of fluff; he was absolutely adorable, but my heart broke when I saw how badly injured he had been.  After surgery and a long recovery, it wasn't long before Dilbert was doing the things he loved; the only thing was he couldn't fly (and still can't, but he isn't afraid to try).  It's funny watching him running at breakneck speed, trying to gain momentum with his good wing, only to fall, head over heels, turning somersaults.  He then gets back up, shakes himself off, and then waddles back to his area, quacking in disgust.  You can swear he's griping and/or complaining; it's the funniest thing ever!

Well, I hate to go, but it's time to feed the critters, then get inside, so I can do my homework before the storms move in later.  I will write in here again with more Dilbert-inspired stories.  Take care; I hope you enjoyed reding about my special ducky buddy!  I love him so much!

What a warm story, Karen. And what a wonderful little girl Ellie is. How fortunate for Dilbert to be rescued and adopted into this fine family.
