We had just finished eating some hot steamed Crabs
When that Storm started up.
Wind - Rain - Swirling Leaves ...
Dodging Fallen Trees on the Back-Roads -
Swerving To and Fro -
Gingerly avoiding Branches strewn on the Beltway -
Back to Pat’s house in Dundalk Safely ...

Got Ice from Royal Farms ...
Second night at Pat’s ...
Sunday returned - Watered my Plants - No Power!

Propped both Doors open - Slept on Floor!
Tuesday, Threw away All Contents of Fridge -
Picked up ed & Vesna at train Station -
Spent day/evening at Niece Bernie’s -
She still had Power, in Catonsville ...
Home at Midnight - No Power!
Slept on Floor Again ...
Wednesday - July 4th - Independence Day!
Happy Birthday America!
Celebrated the Evening ...
With Cold Beers and Hot Fire-Works!
6th Night at Pat’s Again ...
Thank God for A/C !

Their Power was Restored - played Cribbage ...

But Found out that Park Had Been Restored!
ALL ... BUT ME! ... WHY?
Tried calling BGE ... No Help!
Tried BGE Home ... No Help!
Figured out that Circuit Breaker Switch at Meter -
HAD FAILED! Would Not Re-Set!
Tried about 24 Times over 5 Days to Reach Owner of Park -

Thought it was an ‘Easy Fix’ - Just ‘Swap Out Breaker’!
They Watched as I got Toolbox - Removed 2 Screws n’ Panel -
OOPS! Hard-Wired OLD Circuit!
NEED AN ELECTRICIAN!
ONLY OWNER CAN APPROVE!
I WAS EXASPERATED ... FRUSTRATED ... PISSED!
THIS WAS MY TWELFTH DAY WITH NO ELECTRICITY!
WHERE, OH WHERE, WAS ... GOD?
As I was leaving the Park, around 3 Pm ...
Noticed a Little Sign on Empty Lot ...
The Phone Number was DIFFERENT ...
From the One in my Cell Phone ...
Called - Got Recording - Left Message ...
SHE CALLED WITHIN MINUTES ...
Within One Hour Electrician was There!
HE REPLACED FAULTY BREAKER ...
My Meter was Not Turning ...
Still NO POWER!
I quickly went to Bedroom Panel ...
MAIN BREAKER WAS TRIPPED ALSO!
RE-SET IT ... YAY! LIGHTS!
BUT ... STILL NO A/C !!!
After Pushing Many Buttons on the BGE ...
Digital Programmable Thermostat ...
IT FINALLY KICKED ON!
At 5 Pm on Tuesday, July 10th -
After 12 Days of Misery & Frustration ...
I Finally Had A/C - it Was ONLY 93 DEGREES Inside!
After Pool - Slept in OWN BED FINALLY!
THERE SHOULD BE A LAW AGAINST SUCH EMERGENCIES !
THE CEO OF BGE HOME TOLD ME PERSONALLY:
EVEN IF I PAID FOR IT ...
THEY COULD NOT SET FOOT ON PROPERTY
TO DO REPAIR ... WITHOUT OWNER’S PERMISSION!
THAT ... SUCKS!
P.S. Went Food Shopping Yesterday, Saturday July 14th ...
Almost Two Hundred Dollars of ‘Replacement’ Food!
Will HomeOwners’ Insurance Cover It?
WE SHALL SEE!

|Thanks for sharing your ordeal. How completely frustrating!!

|Thanks for alerting me to this. Looks like you had quite an ordeal. At least you are lucky to have relatives that gave you some rest some nights. To think that before 1950 most rural Americans had no power. We had no AC as kids and remember many sleepless nights in the summer when it got hot.
You can read about how we survived hurricane Ike in my news section.

|Glad to hear your ordeal is over, Cuz. But it could have been worse; hundreds of people out west have no homes to return to after all the devastating wildfires burned them out. As for food, get ready for soaring food prices since Drought now covers our farmbelt.
And it's 100 Degrees again in the Midwest, so get ready for more heat and violent storms.
PS: It's the hottest year on record, and most of our so called 'leaders' still laugh and say "There's No Such Thing as Global Warming - Don't Worry About It!"
What they fail to mention is that they all have humongous gasoline generators in their homes which keep them nice and cool whenever their power goes out. And I hear the oil companies will continue to give them free gasoline, as long as they keep approving the billion dollar subsidies.
"Global Warming? Ridiculous!"

|Wow! That is some ordeal, Tom. The power went out for some twelve hours around Christmas here... ...and I must say I was quite lost. Obviously, that was nothing compared to what you went through. Your words remind me of how dependent we have become on electricity. Thank you for sharing, Tom. Love and peace,

|And all that, my friend, can be laid at the feet. of the hot, steamed crabs!!!! Y'see, when you get crabs, one thing leads to another and pretty soon you find yourself running around with no juice.
I hope you've learned your lesson...STAY AWAY FROM THE CRABS!!!

|And there's a new heat wave heading your way even as I sit very comfortable here in So Cal feeling sooo bad for you... No kidding! I do really feel bad for you. I mean you're getting too old for this kind'a shit.

|Lucky to have insurance at all, cuz...find my poem about the storm here...I used to have a tree in front of my house, now it runs up along the side of my house...a friend cut it up but still it sits, the biggest parts right outside my house...oh and my awning got wasted, as did my picnic table and my bike got smushed...hope I never see a storm like that again...we were without power for 8 days, but somebody loaned me a generator for the a/c at night...how did I ever, when younger, live without air conditioning...LOL...keep smiling the best you can...Jurseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey|
