I will not rest until I get my way.
In my world, it's my way or NO way.
I will not relent until I have it all:
Fame! Fortune! The best of everything that life has to offer!
I will see that this will happen, even if it means selling my soul to the devil himself. After all, he's great at getting people what they need in life. Without all of the hard work or worry.
Who needs god, anyway? He's nothing but a big pain in my rear!
I will also see that this will happen (fame, fortune, the best of what life has to offer), even if it means abandoning my own family and my friends, even my job. After all, there has got tobe more in life than flipping burgers at a greasy fast food joint for the remainder of my days!
Cara slid underneath her covers, then pulled them up towards her chin on this particularly chilly night. There was a fat full moon in the inky-black, star-studded sky. For some reason, it seemed colder than usual for this time of year; it was even cold in her room. She shivered uncontrollably.
Cara wished that her mother and father were back from their overseas trip: they had gone on a two week long Mediterranean cruise to the Greek Islands; they had left only two days ago: they would not be back for nearly two weeks.
Cara tried to go to sleep, but she had an uneasy, niggling feeling in the pit of her stomach. Once she did go to sleep, it was troubled. Her mind was full of so many things: worry about her parents, worry about her life at the fast food place she was employed at (God, how she hated her boss!), wanting to be a famous actress or singer, but knowing she didn't have the looks (or talent) in order to make it.
She was awakened by the sound of someone calling her name. Strange, she thought, it can't be Mom or Dad: they aren't even home; they just left two days ago for their cruise, so it can't be them. Jerking bolt upright, she grabbed the covers to her chin and shivered. She looked about her room: nothing was there, other than herself and her stuffed animals.
She heard her name again. "Cara", the voice called. Her eyes darted wildly around, first looking this way, then that way. She didn't see anybody ...
Then she saw him. A man was sitting on her chair, by her desk, staring at her, grinning widely. Or was it a man?
Whatever it was, the Thing looked at Cara with a grin that rivaled the Joker of Batman comics fame. The Thing/Man had ruby-red lips, straight, white teeth, emerald-green eyes that snapped with life, wild black hair that stuck up all over his head like a sea of snakes, and pale, pale skin the color of notebook paper.
The Thing was dressed to the nines in a sparkly black dinner jacket, matching slacks, and pointed Western-style boots. Underneath the jacket he wore a fancy maroon shirt. He was chewing on a fat stogie; the smoke from the stogie curled about his head like a blue halo.
"Do not be alarmed, Cara", the Thing said. "My name is Lucifer. I am your dream come true ."
"I-I don't know y-you," Cara stammered, her heart hammering inside her chest. "Who are you and what do y-you want from m-me?"
"Again, I am Lucifer. I am your dream come true ", the Thing repeated resolutely. "I know what your desires are. I know all about you."
"Well, I don't know anything about you!" Cara demanded, fear and bile rising in her throat. "Who are you, and what are you doing in my room?"
The Thing laughed a wicked, evil-sounding cackle. At the sound of it, Cara screamed, but the Thing didn't seem fazed one bit from her fear. He just laughed all the harder.
