Updates on Hurricane Isaac and Hurricane Katrina (7th Anniversary) Memories

Pic: My front yard

Wednesday, 8/29/12, 7:43 AM (CDT)

Still very windy outside but not much rain thus far in this Southeast part of Baton Rouge. Arbor got bent (pic attached) a little from wind - thought I had it well grounded. In background to right (mine) and left (neighbor's across street): basketball goals I took down (after siphoning out water - yuck, got some bleach taste also in the mouth!) yesterday prior to storm. While power still on (generator tested and ready if needed), let me share this:

As we all "honker down" and cope as best as possible with Isaac - and with the unfortunate 7th Anniversary of Katrina (prayers for all deceased and their families) today, a little levity can certainly help.

When Katrina was our headache, Scott, a friend from New Orleans needed some gas to go north. So he phoned me getting closer to BR, as he couldn't find any gas in the area, as the gas gauge marker on his car was on "E.".

With just a little bit of gas stored for my lawn mower, I also recalled that an unused car that we had on the side of the house had about 1/4 tank left in it, as I would routinely start it to keep it going.

Not being too well adept with siphoning - and not wanting to "take a quick swig of gas," I proceeded to quickly meet Scott by the side of my house after he arrived. After a few close "chugs" of gas in siphoning attempts with a short hose, I finally was able to get some gas out for my buddy, who made it out of BR and eventually to Tennessee when he could top off with more gas out of town.

Peace to all, and safe (and legal) siphoning!
