This was our family car, some of my best memories happened there.
DODGE CORONET

Bob Mitchley

You took me for a ride - when I was a child
In our 66 Dodge Coronet…
Down the auspicious road of life… ere a hot
Summer breeze wisps across our faces - rustles our hair wild.
Down a curvy, long forgotten road - off the beaten trail
That disappears in the rear view as a slithering snake
Bumped - out from underneath a pail.
We drive past an old barn site, (barns long gone)
A broken down stone foundation is all that remains.
I ask, “what happened to that old barn, why did it
Fall in?”
You say, “It was the roof, Bob, the owners couldn’t
Afford to fix it, so it rotted and fell in on its self long ago.”
“But why, why somebody would let a good barn
just rot?”
I didn’t understand then, but I do now…
So what impending lie will our children be told?
Didn’t our forefathers have a lot of work invested
in this barn? “Washington, Jefferson and Lincoln;”
Along with service men and women, (with the help of God)
For what amount was our heritage sold, was it worth the cost?
Not being able to keep our roof fixed, and in dire need of repair! Will God help us build a new barn? Or will we be exiles in a state of progressive despair?" I pray, pray hard. God only knows the answer. "If we the people" can sound the alarm and win "the good fight," We just can't drive away in our '66 Dodge Coronet without looking in the rearview with some regret!
